When it’s time to change, you’ve got to rearrange

friday november 10

Wow! Hello! Happy Friday! It's been a hot minute. Here's a catchup:My knee is at 95% and is giving me no trouble aside from a pang every once in a while. I'm fortunate to have a job where I can sit down and rest it.Murphy's echocardiogram revealed that his heart murmur was due to age-related thickening of the valves and that there is nothing to do about it except observe. He'll have a followup test in 9-12 months, but I think for us it's going to be 12-18 months, on the lower end if he starts ...

Morning Yoga

screenshot of a yoga with adriene video

It's no secret that I slipped way back into a sedentary lifestyle over the last year. Now I'm at an age where I start paying the price for inertia with aches and pains and tightness. In early September I started doing this practice almost every day after waking up. It's only 11 minutes long. When I started I couldn't kneel/sit on my heels at the beginning or hold the hip twists at the end for more than a second. Now I can move through this entire practice most days without any modifications. ...

Jimmy Buffett

Back in the early 00s I had a coworker in my department who was in his late 40s. I was in my late 20s. All of us in the department would share music together back then by burning CDs. One day he gave me a CD of Jimmy Buffett songs. I politely listened to it, but found the music sad. "It's like he wants to leave his entire life and be by the ocean all day. I mean, I love the shore but I love my regular life too!" "You'll get it someday," he replied. A few years later BvP started working ...

Friday 5: Late night dorm talk

calendar page for firdya,

Friends, I am TIRED. I am feeling all of my 50 years today plus maybe 10 more. I have been emotionally cranked up about various things over the last month-plus (WM's surgery, my colonoscopy, two car tows, upcoming Virginia beach trip, work, my stumpy garden, air quality, George Michael nostalgia) and that combined with my period this week has left me a deflated balloon. Straight talk: these menopausal periods are terrible. In my 30s and 40s, it was not fun (it never is) but at least it was ...

Sleepy Tuesday

a random lavender stalk from my garden, which has nothing to do with this post.

Here's a little lunchtime blog for you! My colonoscopy prep began with a few tiny laxatives taken before bed last night. My biggest worry was being hangry all day but after a very early (4am) and ...eventful... morning I really don't want to eat at all. My breakfast was a mug of chicken broth, a cup of black coffee, and a cup of white grape juice. I'd skip the coffee but I get a headache if I don't have caffeine in the morning. By the way, my coffee consumption is down from three cups a ...

Hello!

About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)
