Watching: THE 2018 ROYAL RUMBLE! It's in Philadelphia this year, and I wanted to go but I missed when tickets went on sale (Last summer was A SUMMER) and they were very expensive anyway. As a result, I'm watching it on the sofa. It's so good. AJ Styles is my favorite wrestler (amazingly talented AND a hottie in a country-boy 'get in my truck' way) and he retained his belt tonight. WM's favorite wrestler is Shinsuke Nakamura. Nakamura just won the Rumble and chose to challenge AJ for his belt ...
Currently, post-cruise edition
Moping: Because this time last week I was getting ready for a cruise and now it's OVER and where is my free food? Where are my palm trees? Where are the views like this? Aching: Because I left my anti-inflammatories home and my back ache is back at the same intensity it was before I started the meds. It's been a few months now and I think I'm going to need an xray to see what's going on. Dieting: Tomorrow. My duds are tight. Losing: At Words With Friends, BUT I picked up two ...
Friday 5: Quarters
I'm so new to the blogging return that I almost forgot to post the Friday 5! This week's theme is Quarters. 1. The first quarter of 2017 is now behind us. How has it been? Much better than I thought. 2016 was SO awful in SO many ways for SO many people that it's nice to take a breather. Politically, it's all burning down, but since ACA wasn't taken away, I'm a bit hopeful that compassion and common sense will win the day on the rest of the issues. 2. How has this past quarter of ...
I finally watch TV!
I resolved for a long time to watch more television. It sounds batty and against what all the Youngs are doing these days, but there's a lot to be said for being able to talk about television shows with people. To that end, here are the shows I watch: Parks and Recreation: Very funny and warm at the same time. The characters are inherently good people, but still quirky and sometimes wrong. We watched the first 5 seasons this summer using a combination of Comcast OnDemand and Hulu Plus, which ...
RIP, Nancy and Daniel Benoit
It's really hard to handle the fact that a guy I thought was a stand-up guy through my (admittedly very limited) exposure to him turned out to be a complete tool. An evil, murderous tool. The comments to last post were, as always, thoughtful. While I don't think poorly of adults who watch wrestling, I don't think I'd have let my kids watch the last 8-10 years worth of the WWE because of some of the disturbing storylines they went through (Undertaker/Kane arson angles, Big Bossman's abuse of the ...
RIP, Chris Benoit
A few years back, there were a bunch of toys left over from a photo shoot for the cover of a Holiday Gift guide. Most were given to charity. Some of the less giftable toys were left over. The coordinator of the section came to me with an action figure, still in the plastic box. "You like weird stuff...want this?" I looked at the box. "Sure! It's Chris Benoit! The Rabid Wolverine! The Canadian Crippler!" She shot me a wary look. "It's yours." I'd been watching wrestling with my family since ...
Stats
The top 20 searches that brought people to my site in November: (my comments in parenthesis) 1 ladygypsy (makes sense) 2 eddie guerro dead (I blogged about this) 3 death of eddie guerro (See above) 4 how did eddie guerro die (Okay...a bit sick here) 5 american chopper (huh?) 6 oops (okay...who would search for "oops?" And what would they want to find?) 7 remove before washing or wearing (You saucy people you!) 8 eddie guerro (newsflash: he's dead) 9 eddie guerro 1967-2005 (the ...
RIP, Eddie
(warning: raw post) I've been watching Wrestling since before WrestleMania 1, but I started falling out of interest a few years ago. Eddie Guerrero was found dead today. Was he a huge star like Hogan or Austin or Flair? Nah. Was he a nobody jobber? Nah. He was a typical pro-wrestler who made it. Mid-card with occasional pushes here and there. But he had tremendous in-ring skills and a silky-smooth in-ring persona that made you love him, and love to hate him. (God, that's cliched) Everybody is ...
Busy weekend!
Another Sunday night...another weekend flown by.Here's a quick wrapup in reverse chronological order.Tonight is the WWE Royal Rumble. Even though I've really fallen away from following pro wrestling like I used to, the Royal Rumble is one of my favorite events. Mom's hosting it.Thor and I had dinner at the Olive Garden. Before that, we had our third Swing Dance class. Just when we think we're really progressing, the teacher introduces another step. This week we went over hand changes and various ...
weatherpixie, wrestlemania, and mortgage
I succumbed to the charms of the WeatherPixie (bottom of the left navigation) after seeing her on so many other sites. Today began the first day of my new work philosophy. Unless we have a major pressing deadline, I'm no longer staying there past 5:30 pm. Staying that late every night saps my morale, and I really don't get as much done as I think I do. So I'm going to work a bit more efficiently and salvage my evenings for me. Which meant that tonight I took a nap on the loveseat, dog asnooze ...
Smackdown and house progress
Oooo...SmackDown was great! They taped a few matches for WWE Velocity (airs on Saturdays) first. Then they proceeded with SmackDown. Our original seats were blocked off, so we were told to sit anywhere we want in a certain section. I'm convinced that our new seats were even better than the old one. Have I mentioned that the tickets were free? ;) And, we received a special guest from WWE Raw -- but I won't spoil that for those who'll watch the show on Thursday! On the AC Expressway, we passed a ...
