If you recall, Mom and I went to Virginia Beach for vacation last year and this year. Thanks to a helpful birdie at Wired Stone Designs my blog post caught the attention of Val at Virginia.org. She kindly sent Mom and me a gift pack of goodies! When I was little, we went to Virginia on a family trip and my mom bought an original Virginia is for Lovers t-shirt. So it was fitting that I gave the shirt to her. Being my mom, she let me keep the rest of the swag. There's a plastic tumbler with ...
no witty title today
Uneventful yesterday. I arrived in Virginia last night at 7:30ish, just as planned. This Hilton has a self-serve checkin kiosk, which rocked because I had my room key in hand before the checkin line had moved 2 people! "Make sure you get to the bar Sunday night!" I was told. Lots of schmoozing to be had. Well, the bar was closed for an "Exxon/Mobil private party"** so there was no socializing at all. Bummer. Because you all know how good I am at just thrusting myself into a group of people. ...
Oh what a night!
Washington Monument as seen from the bus Originally uploaded by ladygypsy. I wasn't going to go to the networking dinner tonight. I was feeling tired and really just wanted to sack out and surf the web. But begrudgingly, I went. Disclaimer: I am not speaking specifically about the Courier-Post. I am speaking of general trends in ALL newspapers that have been well publicized as of late. So don't fire me. There was a great presentation by the API folks tonight entitled "Where is the Love" ...
more from discovery
From the PhoneCam!American chopper Originally uploaded by ladygypsy.Cycle made by the 'american chopper' guys to honor the 20th anniversary of the Discovery channel. While it's a nice place to visit...their reality and print media's reality are quite different. I wonder what's in their ladies' room... edited to add: nothing cool in the loo. I was expecting space-age hairspray or at the *very* least, a bidet. v. disappointed. networking dinner tonight. this has the potential to be a very ...

Different bedroom – same bear
From the PhoneCam! Imagine you're doctor with a smallish family practice. You sign up for a seminar. When you arrive, you see that at that seminar, there are CEOs of hospitals, doctors with chain practices, some cutting-edge biologists and a few brain surgeons thrown in for good measure. You are by far the smallest and most inconsequential person there. That, friends, is me. But the good news is that the challenges I face in my little piddly job are the same challenges the other face in ...
Cross-Platform Media Teams – The Media Center @ API
Business trip #3 and FINAL for June... Cross-Platform Media Teams - The Media Center @ API I'll be shoving off at 1ish, and plan to stop at Maryland House for a slice of Sbarro pizza and something from Starbucks to take me the rest of the way to Reston. I'll have the laptop with me, so the boring blog will not fall by the wayside. Couldn't do that to you! ...
blue ball o death
From the PhoneCam!Blue ball of death Originally uploaded by ladygypsy. We took a tour of the building today. the place is totally ginormous. As we were walking through the full service cafeteria -- bigger than those at the WDW hotels -- our guide said forlornly, 'well...there USED to be music in the cafeteria...'how, dear reader, am I supposed to sympathize with that? 'oh...i totally feel your pain. There was once a guy who used to whistle in front of our vending machines...'thee is also gannett ...

Corporate training, day 1
From the PhoneCam!Corporate Originally uploaded by ladygypsy.Wow. Just...wowThis building is huge, mirrored, and gorgeous. And it has a gift shop with all sorts of Gannett swag. The drive was only 3 hours or so, plus an hour for lunch. The hotel has a really crappy wireless connection. I brought my webcam with me (for Yahoo IM) but it goes down a lot. Maybe I'll have better luck tonight. What I've learned so far: My counterpart at one of our other NJ papers also plays World of Warcraft. ...
