I spent my first year at TNP trying not to look stupid and get fired. My second year, I worked hard, stayed (mostly) quiet and flew under the radar. In my third year I started speaking up, sitting at the table and getting things done. Because of that third-year FOOLISHNESS, I was offered a promotion at TNP. And after a weekend of pros/cons lists, I accepted. Hooray! Even though my current title has "manager" in it, I didn't have anyone under me. I used to say I managed pixels instead of ...
I bought this!
The meeting went well. My ideas were well-received and nothing traumatic happened. That's about all a girl could ask for. I've been sleeping maybe 3 hours tops for the last week angsting about this meeting. So I'm glad it's done. To reward myself, I bought this shirt. It's from the Borgata Gypsy Bar. Gypsy - LadyGypsy...get it? Anyhoo...I'm chock fulla red wine and heading back downstairs to seek my fortune! Or maybe just go to bed. Who knows? ...
monotony
My "big yearly meeting" is on Tuesday. I leave for Atlantic City tomorrow afternoon. And like last year...I have nothing. Well, can't really say that. I have a FEW ideas. But nothing written down yet, let alone photocopied in fifteen-pliclate. I ran two ideas by some Director peers, and they were well-received. My neck is killing me. I slept poorly on Thursday night and now I'm all stiff from my neck to my right shoulderblade. Perhaps some Aleve will help. Mixed with Captain Morgan. (I kid, ...
Annual Review (self)
I gave a 45 minute presentation to our sales staff today. The digital projector needs to cool before I can put it away...so it's a good time to jot down my thoughts.I've been at my "Junior Management Executive Barbie" role for a year and a day now. Every misstep (and boy, have there been missteps) has been a learning experience. Every triumph has been savored. It's been challenging, and I've learned so much in this past year. There's a LONG distance to go. I need to be better organized, and more ...
Looking for a new hire and Janet Jackson boobgate
Kim's tip for jobseekers: If you're going to apply for a web job -- check out the company's web site before the interview. For Pete's sake...isn't that common sense?!?Re: Janet Jackson Desperate. I was mortified -- MORTIFIED! I mean -- Rhythm Nation was released in 1989. That song's almost 15 years old. Why would a pop legend (and yes, I consider her a pop legend) do something as desperate as resort to singing a 15-year-old song at the SuperBowl??Seriously, instead of freaking out about her teat ...
Max and politics
So naturally, the last place I want to be at 12:15am is outside with Max. But Thor and I recently reworked our schedules and agreed upon a new dog schedule. He'll take Max out when he gets home from work, and before he goes to sleep (recall, Thor works overnights); and I'll take Max out when I get home from work and again before I go to sleep. This seems to work well for Max. But when I end up surfing the web until midnight, and it's in the teens outside...let's just say I wish there was another ...
January 15, 2004
Shawn at the CP has tomorrow's special section under control, so I got to come home after yoga and play a bit of Horizons. My parking lot "Reserved" sign was installed today. It's just creepy to see my name in big black letters keeping watch over a spot that's just for me. Dunno what I've done to deserve a spot, mind you (I'm not a director -- merely a manager), but I'll take it! And tomorrow I get my head shot taken for the Rising Star booklet. I'm truly waiting for the bottom to fall out of ...
Last early morning shift!
Yeesh...where *did* yesterday go?Good morning! And welcome to my last regularly-scheduled 5:30am - 2:00pm shift. I figured I'll blog while my Hot Properties are generating.Last night I passed out on the "Nap Chair" and stayed there until 4:30 this morning, when I woke up in a fright. I'm glad I woke up at 4:30 and not at 7:00. Max slept on the footrest and Charlie was at the head of the chair with his paws tangled in my hair. Mood: Frickin' thrilled that it's Friday!Work: I finished the "Win a ...
Reports
Hey! I didn't blog yesterday! :) I was busy doing a few more reports. The rain is pounding on the roof of the building. It's been raining steadily for at least 12 hours. All the snow has been washed away. So I'm guessing today's weather gripe (and perhaps something that will show up on our site as "Breaking News" today and one of the top 5 SJ stories tomorrow) will be flooding. Mood: Tranquil. Must be the drumming sound of the rain.Work docket: Where do I start? Firstly, our communities ...
Slumped
Well, at noon yesterday I got an email saying that I was a part of a 2:00 - 3:30 conference call. Recall that I got no sleep the night before. By the time I got home it was after 4:00. By the time I got changed it was close to 4:30 and by the time I got back from walking Max it was getting dark.So when David woke at 7 pm and saw me slumped in my chair staring blankly at the wall, you can't blame him for making me go to bed.And there is why CookieCam didn't happen. On the upside, I slept from ...
Resolution
Resolution for the rest of the year: I will not tell anyone that I WANT the Online Manager job nor will I tell anyone that I DON'T WANT the Online Manager job. When I go to work, I will work. Period. I'm not sure what I want for myself let alone being able to tell others what I want. Job probably won't open until January anyway. Although I am 95% sure of a decision, I won't be called to make it until then. To that end, I emailed some people I blabbed to yesterday and told them not to spread ...
