Today Thor and I put up most of our outdoor Christmas lights. All we need now is to borrow a ladder tomorrow to finish them. They look beautiful and magical. What's even better is that this year we OWN the property that we're festooning. Only twenty-nine years and six months to go!I just hit the 40,000 word mark on my crappy novel, Tumble Dry. For padding's sake, I just had the main character (whose name I changed from Anne to Meg) find out that her newly outed lesbian sister and her boss (Anya, ...
Black Friday, 2004
We arrived at Sears at 5:45 for its 6:00am opening...the prize was a cherished $10 gift card given to the first 200 people. The line snaked around the corner of the building. We were hopeful, but alas, we arrived too late.Other stores hit so far:Strawbridge's (Moorestown)Rack Room shoes (remind me to tell you about this)JC Penneys (missed getting the free Mickey Mouse snowglobe)Strawbridge's (Cherry Hill -- my coat...sold out)Silver Diner (Me: Caramel French Toast and a hot cocoa - NOT the way ...
Budget (not ab) crunches
I crunched so hard on my budget yesterday that my brain's just fried today. The big weekly meeting was cancelled as well, which leaves a 4 hour gap of totally free time. (Two hours for the meeting, two to get ready for it)Sure, I could find some things to do, but it's a festive day here. Everyone's mind is on being off tomorrow. So here's a few bullet points that are flitting through my distracted mind today. I have 17,500 words to write in 6 days. I'm still convinced I will complete my novel by ...
Nanowrimo Tumble Dry update
Update:My novel, Tumble Dry is now at 30,355 words. To finish by midnight on 11/30, I need to write 2455 words a day. I'm going to shoot for 2500 - 3000 since I want to cushion a bit to account for Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Also, to make me triple-paranoid going into work tomorrow, I realized that I had a mini-project, really just an emailed list of site-related things, due on Friday. I delegated that work off, so hopefully tomorrow morning, it'll be done and I can send it in right away with ...
Paperback writer
Paperback writerYeesh...that cold was tough. It seems like the older I get, the fewer times I get sick, but the harder I get hit by those colds. I stayed home from work on Friday as well, making me double-paranoid going into work tomorrow. But can't stay home forever, and I really don't want to. There's a lot to tackle, and now that my head is pain-free and my fever is gone, I know how to tackle them.Even more of a down side (would that be a further down side?) is that I missed three nights of ...
Apologies
ApologiesDear Blog:I'm very sorry I haven't written in you like I should have. See, back in October, I signed up to participate in National Novel Writing Month. The goal is to get 50,000 words of fiction written in November's 30 days. (See my profile here.)Naturally, I'm behind. But not by much anymore. Tonight I broke the 20,000 word threshold. And I'm proud. (Even though I should be at 26,672 and last time I checked Mom was at 30,000 words) My novel is the worst piece of 'chick lit' ever ...
Sheer Insanity
Sheer Insanity50,000 words a day divided by 30 days = 1,667 words per day.1,667 words per day multiplied by 10 days in November = 16,670 words = where I should be today.50,000 words minus 8,315 words (what I've written so far)divided by 20 days (what I have left in this month) = 2,085 words nightly to reach my goal. Why I signed up for this homework assignment also known as National Novel Writing Month (aka NaNoWriMo) is beyond me.My novel is called Tumble Dry and it is by far the worst example ...
November 5, 2004
NaNoWriMo update: 4117 words written. I'm still behind the curve, but catching up. Last night's torrential rains kept most of the NaNos away from Starbucks, but I did meet one other writer and we had a pleasant evening sipping hot drinks and tearing our hair out. The working title of my novel is Tumble Dry. No, you can't read it yet. Or possibly ever. I wanted to write a fantasy novel, but ended up with this piece of crappy "chick lit."How dedicated am I to this project? I missed both Survivor ...
November 4, 2004
Co-worker S is on vacation. S is working the early morning shift that I used to work (and sometimes miss), so while she's gone, I'm doing the early morning site-checking gig. And when I finish *that* -- I get to do some early morning surfing. You don't expect me to actually get out of bed earlier, do you? :)Here in NJ, schools close for 2 days so that teachers can have their big annual union teacher convention in Atlantic City. A huge benefit of Mom being a teacher is that I get to participate ...
