Happy Friday, which is also National Homemade Bread Day and, fittingly, National Butter Day. I wonder if they planned that. We are a multi-butter household. WM prefers Country Crock spread, and I prefer Kerrygold in a butter bell on the counter. Which reminds me, I need to change the water out of that tomorrow and add butter. The workweek was long and a little stressful and I'm glad it's over. I had an appointment today with Doc Ladyparts, checking off another yearly doctor appointment box. I ...
Friday 5: Just Wing It
Happy Sunday! To wind up "Operation Use a Bunch of my PTO this Summer" I don't go back until work until Thursday. I actually went OUT Friday night. Out. Past 11. I went to Atlantic City with Mom and my sibling who doesn't read this blog and we had a great time. It was just like the old days, and even though a taking a family trip to AC to gamble sounds dysfunctional, well, we grew up okay. Some families go to singalongs or campouts. (Or campouts where they all sang.) Mine took me to play ...
Vegas gambling roundup
While I sort through which pics I want to post...here is a roundup of how we "did" at the casinos. PS: Thankfully, nothing was stolen from our house. Much thanks to the housesitter for her sharp eye! :) ...
After-school special
On any trip to an Atlantic City casino, you gain increased exposure to what I insensitively call the "wheelchair and oxygen" crowd. The senior citizens. The oldsters. Spending the money that's deducted from my paycheck each week. They are slow. Very slow. It happened that on this trip, I was behind an older woman who used a cane. She used metallic prop (the kind with the four rubber feet at the bottom) for each agonizing step. I bit my lip as she slowly inched forward.. And then it hit me. ...
Hard eight
As per Mom's wishes, this afternoon was spent at the Borgata. Again. (The gambling gene runs straight up my Mom's branch of the family tree...we are unrepentant.) I had a twenty dollar bill to play with. I was going to do slots and nothing else, then meet MomnJohn for a dinner in a half hour. I meandered by the craps tables and to my surprise found two with a $10 minimum bet. Usually I see tables at $25 and up...way out of my price range. Immediately I scampered to the ATM and took out $100. ...
Go Daddy-o!
Blogging live from AC via the celly. BBVD were fantastic. I've now confirmed that I have a suit/tie fetish. (hat optional). The auditorium wasn't set up for dancing, so unfortunately Thor and I couldn't show off our swing dance 'skills.' I'm up 100 thanks to a very hot roulette table. I had 5 numbers hit out of 6 spins. Then, they increased the minimum bet of the table to $25. I wisely decided to cash out. I fully expect Thor to go missing during the night. ;) As for me, I'll be having ...
Peggy Sue goes to Atlantic City
"Let's go to New York for the weekend," Thor said to me this morning as I tried to fight the idea of morning. Remember, he was chipper from just coming home from work."Mmm..." I replied. "It's supposed to be a mild one!" he said encouringly. "Is it? Good," I muttered, remember how cold it was last year."C'mon. Fire up your laptop. See what the weather will be."Yes, I keep my laptop in bed with me. So I prop myself up on the as-yet-unnamed body pillow and surfed to weather.com. Typed in "New ...
No freebies left behind
No freebies left behindHighlight of the NJEA convention: At the registration area, two teachers reach into the a bin and emerge with fistfulls of plastic name tag covers.NJEA Employee: Ma'am? Do you really need all of those?Teacher 1: (adopts an attitude) Well, I was GOING to use them for my class for field trips (read: my family reunion) but forget it. (tosses them back into the bin with disgust and walks off)Teacher 2: (stammers) Me too. (drops hers back into the bin and walks off)NJEA ...
tummy full, nice evening
Mmmmmmmm...tummy full, nice evening, surfing the web from bed. Life is good!(by the way, if you want to track the evolution of my future "movable type" based blog, you can at /blog/index.html I have much to learn, but I'm plodding through little by little.Tonight, Mom, John, Thor and I went to the Borgata. I played some roulette and lost. Played some slots and lost. If I won, I wanted the money to go toward a new PDA to replace my late m515. But t'was not to be. We got there around 7:45ish, and ...
Bedtime blog
This, baby, is why I got a laptop. Snug betwixt my sheets, I can surf and read until my eyes droop. And tap out my great American novel. Dunno what it's about yet, though.Saturday, which ended 40 minutes ago, was very eventful indeed!I started off my day with a trip to Target. Well, scratch that. First, I detoured myself to Coffee Works, an independent coffee shop very close to me, for a large chai latte. I had the entire store to myself, and paged through the free (and uber-liberal, yuck!) ...
