Good morning and happy, um, Saturday. I know, I know. But I’ve been sick all week and last night once I logged out of work yesterday, I logged out from the rest of the evening as well. I’m feeling a little bit better this morning. Which is good because while today is National Animal Crackers Day (I enjoy them occasionally) and National Lineman Appreciation Day (except for you, Lineman Mike), it’s also get shit done day at the House on Literary Lane.
The Friday 5

This week’s Friday 5 is Plus or Minus which is apt because this is posted plus one day after it should have been. Let’s go!
- What could you really use one more of?
Day in my weekends. TNP’s Summer Fridays are on the horizon, and I’m one of those people who would happily log in earlier four days a week to have three day weekends. - What could you really use one fewer of?
Republican Presidents.Minor household calamities. We had a pipe burst in the garage earlier in the week. And my car is still in the shop because our mechanic is so busy he couldn’t get to it yet. - What do you have exactly the right number of?
Toilets in the house. We have three, and as a kid growing up in a house with only one bathroom, it was always my goal to live in a place with more than one toilet. I always though the golden number was two toilets, but three is niiiiiice. - On a scale of 1 to 10, rate your day so far. What could happen by day’s end to improve the day exactly one rating?
I woke up not long ago and haven’t had breakfast yet. I’m not on vacation, so that starts my day at an eight. I’m still congested with a shaky voice, which makes it a six. There is a lot that could happen to bring it up one level, but to bring it to a seven, I’ll need an uneventful grocery run after breakfast. - What could happen by day’s end to worsen the day exactly one rating?
I know the day will get better naturally, but if Murphy gets sick today, that will deflate it a point. Speaking of…
The Murphy Update:
On Monday we talked with our favorite of the vets at the practice. She is more conservative when it comes to treatment, but she also got him through his IMHA scare when he was five. This isn’t to minimize the opinions of the other vets at the practice. We were in a situation where WM and I separately spoke with three doctors across five appointments and four phone calls. This was us asking one doctor to help us unite all of the findings with us both.
A few days before I went to TNP’s conference we moved Murphy to a low fat diet 3 and over time, the time in between vomiting episodes has slowly improved. He now recovers almost immediately instead of being lethargic. His poops are normal again. The vet is pleased with that & says he may just have an acid issue now because of his age.
She (with the usual medical caveats) does not believe the spleen mass or the lung spot are cancerous. The position of the spleen mass would not cause the GI issues. And she would not rush us into a splenectomy because of Murphy’s age. It’s major surgery. She’s comfortable with us having another ultrasound in 6 or even 12 months to see if the mass has changed. The chance of spleen rupture is only a little bit higher than it would be without a mass.
(Not scheduling the surgery immediately made me feel very “uneducated mom steals her kid out of the hospital to treat it on her own with colloidal silver & prayer” but I really wanted to see if we could regulate his GI system first. Turns out my instinct was correct. )
Today marks seven days since he last vomited. He has been running around, loving spring, asking for toys, and sleeping well. We are happy because he is happy. He misses human food though.
That’s it for today! Enjoy your Saturday, and I’ll be back on Monday with something. ♥
