Friday 5: Texture (and a remembrance of my red sofa)

Friends, the time has finally come for us to let go of the red sofa that was a fixture of my very first single-lady apartment. (that blog post is pure gold, by the way) Purchased in 2006, the red sofa has been the source of snuggles for 3 dogs, 2 cats, and 2 people. It’s been in 2 apartments and a house. In an effort to keep the sofa forever, I restuffed the pillows and refreshed the batting in the seat cushions. I’ve steam cleaned it. We bought legs to replace the ones that had puppy teeth marks. When it started to sag, we bought some plastic inserts to keep the seat cushions parallel to the floor. But some of the fabric is rubbing away and the springs are coming up through the frame.

Tonight, my beloved red sofa will be hauled to the curb (a few days early for trash day, sorry neighbors!) and tomorrow a navy sofa will arrive to replace it.

I cry over everything, but this morning I cried over my red sofa. I’ll never forget it.

a saggy red sofa, much used and much loved
It is so worn out.

(receives phone call)

Um, so because of the snowstorm, the new sofa will be arriving on Sunday so I have one more night with my beloved red sofa. Carry on.

Sounds like the red sofa had a grand life. Especially with the non-human snuggles, though in saying so I may be admitting some bias. I am currently living sans sofa. I was sure I would get one but it’s been a few months and nobody is coming over and the dogs have the bed. 🙂

It really did. Blue sofa is wonderful though. There is something to be said for support as one … matures. 🙂

Hello!

About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)

Well, that happened.
