Memorial Day weekend wrap-up

Happy Memorial Day, which is a day we set aside to honor those lost in military service to our country but instead everyone posts pictures of their living veteran relatives or their dead relatives who were veterans. It makes my eyeball twitch when people put up the "REMEMBER WHAT THIS DAY IS REALLY ABOUT YOU BBQ-ING INFIDEL" memes and then say "Here's a pic of grandpappy who is now 101 and fought in WWII." No maybe YOU should remember what this day is about. I'll hold your corn on the cob. And ...

There's a great future in plastics

Inspired by the Instagrammers who photoshop/picmonkey the life out of themselves, I downloaded an app called Perfect 365 to see how I could improve my online presence. Here is my before and after. On the left, I'm made up as usual for work. Some foundation to cover up spots. Some lipstick. Trademark terrifying smile. On the right it completely got rid of the area under my eyes. Concealer aside, I don't know if that's possible without latex additions and the makeup artists from Face Off. It ...

Why I am not a makeup blogger

I've been a blissfully happy Birchbox member for over a year now. I enjoy the samples and it's just fun to get a $10 box of surprises each month. So far I've discovered two new fragrances, a BB cream that works, some decadent hand cream, and a nifty brown liquid eyeshadow that travels well. Last week I wanted to take a photo to show the orangey-coraly lip shade that I'm debating getting a full size of. But I wanted it to be kind of artsy. Like the makeup bloggers do. I ended up with THIS ...

Beauty tips that took me 25 years to learn: Eyeshadow brushes!

I've never been much into makeup, much to the dismay of my Mom who used to swish blush on my face as I glumly ate breakfast in the morning before school. Now to hide the world-weariness that 11+ years working for a newspaper will give you, I'm starting to indulge. A few months ago I bought Stila's Glamour Goddess palette to pull myself out of the rut of years of drugstore eyeshadow duos. Trouble is, those duos always come with the foam applicator. This kit came with no applicator at all. I'd ...

Monday lunch

Wt: 158.4. Damnation. Today I spent lunch at my own desk, people be damned. I worked through 40 minutes of it, though. Oh well. In the 20 minutes I used to rest my brain, I managed to find 3 of my late grandparents' houses* on Google Maps. The houses themselves I remember fondly. Unfortunately, the details of each house escape me. I stare at the satellite images and wonder, "Was it on THAT side of the street?" "Is the Google pointer wrong?" "Did we make a left to get there?". It's odd, and a ...

Hello!

About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)
