Friday 5: They

kim, dorkily holding a balloon

Hanging onto blogging (and sanity) by my very fingertips, here I am again! This week's Friday 5 theme is They. They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. How have you proven them right or wrong?I suppose as dogs go, I'm getting up there and I'm pretty adept at learning any new thing that comes along. Except blockchain/crypto which I'm not fully convinced is real anyway. They say you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him or her drink. How has this proven true or false in ...

Friday 5: Consumer Reports

a small, stuffed plague doctor, cuter than it sounds

Happy Friday! Today I was off from work for this momentous event: After which I TORE off my mask and licked the doorhandles. Nah. I kept my mask on and still used hand sanitizer because I care about most others. In two weeks I'll have as much immunity as I'll ever have and to celebrate I'm going to go to the library. I'll be the one happily crying in the stacks. After I got home and had lunch, Mom called. Her car broke down about 10 miles away. Thankfully, she was in a parking lot. I my ...

Friday 5: Brr!

Happy Friday from my day off, which is being spent in the same place as where I am when I work. I took today off because I'm supposed to be receiving my first COVID-19 vaccine. ALAS... We have had winter storms here for the last 3 Thursdays and this was no exception. Because of this ... mess ... my vaccine was rescheduled (automatically!) until next Friday. I'm not taking next Friday off - I'll just zip out there and back and call it a lunch hour. Kim of last April would have been crying ...

Friday 5: Couples Therapy

more snow.

Happy Friday! I am going to need therapy if it continues to snow once a week. It's pretty and it wasn't a lot but we are definitely in the deep of winter now and I'm feeling the misery. I've been cold since mid-January and when I'm cold like this I don't really warm up until spring. At least my current 'office' allows space heaters. Thirty-five days until spring. In the meantime, I'm receiving seeds in the mail and dreaming of decorating my patio tiki-style, since I don't plan on going ...

Friday 5 and Happy Birthday Murphy

Today this noble knob turns 4. In his 4th year, Murphy learned compassion. If one of us is sick or blue, Murphy is RIGHT THERE. Lying on top of our chests when we're burning with fever. Licking our faces as we sit on the bathroom floor in the middle of the night. Snorfling close if we're sad. Murphy loves: Ollie, us, fresh tomatoes, tiny animals, chicken nuggets, my mother, cold coffee, clean laundry, and the TV program Vikings. Murphy hates: His own farts, strangers, noises, not being ...

Friday 5: Watching my Figure

Lemme tell ya, working 5 days straight after being off for eleven days is for the birds. Even if I don't have to commute anymore. I closed my laptop as soon as the clock hit 4:30pm. I am still cranked up about the riots on Wednesday and I need to figure out what to do. Sure, an email is just an email but who knows. One candle lights the darkness blah blah blah. Tonight we had chicken noodle soup and buttermilk biscuits for dinner. The soup recipe is from Delish and the biscuits are from Blue ...

Friday 5: Just Wing It

Happy Sunday! To wind up "Operation Use a Bunch of my PTO this Summer" I don't go back until work until Thursday. I actually went OUT Friday night. Out. Past 11. I went to Atlantic City with Mom and my sibling who doesn't read this blog and we had a great time. It was just like the old days, and even though a taking a family trip to AC to gamble sounds dysfunctional, well, we grew up okay. Some families go to singalongs or campouts. (Or campouts where they all sang.) Mine took me to play ...

Friday 5: Regionalism

Happy Friday! This is my last Summer Friday of the summer (weeps, gnashes teeth) so I spent it the way I tried to spend every Summer Friday - down the shore. via GIPHY I made that animated gif! It's 1994 all over again! We got home around 3. I took a shower, had some fast food for dinner and parked myself outside with a stack of magazines to let my hair dry naturally to give it some beachy waves. *** Time for the Friday 5! This week's theme is regionalism, which looks to ...

Friday 5: Mist It by That Much

We have a new nephew! For blog purposes, he is Nephew B, and his older brother is Nephew A. It works out really well that way. The lovely Kristen is doing well and my brother doesn't read my blog anyway so to heck with him. ;) Li'l B is snuggly, smells amazing, and has a great tiny smile. I can't wait to get him his own cape. I'm happy to have my small army of nephews! After 3 days of being offline due to some freaky voltage on the pole across the street that was interfering with our ...

Hello!

About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)
