Friday 5: Speed

Happy Friday, which is also National Nutty Fudge Day and National Odometer Day! (WM: I thought National Odometer Day was rolled back. badum-tsh!) It’s the end of a long week at work, with a few meetings that could have gone sideways but did not. For that I am grateful.

Summer weather has arrived just in time for the Devils’ hockey season to come to an end. They played really well and ended the season strong, losing in sudden death overtime. I’m sad to see hockey go because it was a great way to spend the long winter evenings at home. But I’m ready to get back into my hammock!

This time last year I had Covid. Wild.

Time for the Friday 5! This week’s theme is Speed. Let’s gooooooooo….

  1. What do you do very quickly?
I eat really quickly. I know I shouldn’t, but I can hoover a plate down in record time.
  2. What do you do very slowly?
Cooking. I seem unable to just whip out a meal like other people can. A meal that takes 20 minutes takes me 40.
  3. What caused you most recently to be late for something?
This is not meant to be a flex, but I can’t remember the last time I was late for something.
  4. Today is the 132nd day of the year. Have the days gone quickly or slowly?
Very quickly, and this is something people always told me about getting older but it’s so true. Once I hit 45 hours started feeling like minutes. Dreading a meeting or doctor appointment? Blink and it’ll be over already.
  5. What will you take your time on this weekend?
I need to weed the garden and assess its progress. Some plants are growing well, but my tomatoes and peppers which I purposefully started early in order to have them larger when I transplanted them haven’t grown at all. I even took care to harden them off! Perhaps it was the weeks of rain? Hopefully they’ll start taking off with the warmer weather.

Other than gardening, Mother’s Day is Sunday. It’s still a kick in the gut for me, but since my Wombsday Clock started skipping ticks it’s like, eh. It stinks and I’ll probably end up in tears at some point but at least I don’t feel like crawling in a hole this year.

And WM’s birthday is Monday! Enjoy your weekend!

Hello!

About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)

Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble. - Representative John Lewis
