Friday 5: Recency Bias

Happy Friday! Today is National Chocolate Chip Day (semisweet mini morsels, please) and National Nylon Stocking Day (I still feel underdressed without them) but that all pales next to today’s BIG event: WM’s birthday. <3

friday may 15

I was off this afternoon, running around doing things while simultaneously worrying about being off this afternoon. It’s just been one of those weeks.

Here’s the Friday 5! This week’s theme is Recency Bias.

  1. What’s the most recent addition to your wardrobe?
I bought a gray tie-dyed jumpsuit from the TikTok shop (I know, I know), and it is GHASTLY. But I think for kicking around the house this summer, it won’t be so bad.
  2. What’s your most recent social faux pas?
I’m not sure I’m even social enough anymore to have faux pas, but generally I’m terrible with asynchronous chatter. I’m part of a Slack community where I don’t pay attention for a few days and then feel like I’m out of the loop and self-conscious about jumping back in. I don’t keep Facebook Messenger on my phone, and when I reinstall it I feel terrible because I’ve missed the window on responding to messages. I’ll also be texting with someone, they’ll reply during my Do Not Disturb hours (9am-4pm M-F, 10pm-7am daily) and I won’t even realize they answered.
  3. What was your most recent cause for celebration?
Today is WM’s birthday!! We don’t do a lot of gifting for birthdays and Christmas anymore (we mostly just buy what we want) but I gave him This Way Up which is a book about maps. We’re going to Mom’s for cake in a little bit.
  4. What have you recently been surprised by?
This morning my brother (who does not read my blog and is also nearing 50 years old) sent me a video of David Letterman and Stephen Colbert tossing furniture and food off the roof of the Ed Sullivan Theater. I was surprised by how nostalgic it made me feel for the old Letterman shows. For decades I was obsessed with Dave’s sense of humor and his interview style. I know, typical GenX. I should really watch Dave’s Netflix interview series.
  5. What was your most recent kitchen success?
Pre-COVID,I used to bake chicken for WM’s lunches. I recently trotted that out again. The recipe I use is from Gimme Some Oven, and for the seasoning I use Penzey’s 33rd and Galena which is smoky but not too smoky, and peppery but not too peppery.

And that’s it for this week. Since it’s WM’s birthday weekend, I am merely a supporting character in whatever adventures he chooses. Back Monday!

And here’s Dave. Seventy-nine years old and still simply the best.

Previous Post Wordless Wednesday 2026: Week 20

Hello!

About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)

Well, that happened.
