Hello and happy Friday, friends! I write to you while camped on the sofa in waves of pain. Today is Nephew A’s SEVENTH birthday! Can you even believe this? I cannot. And the lovely Kristen and my brother-who-does-not-read-my-blog rented a freaking bounce house for their yard.
I have never been in a bounce house because I am so old that I pre-date safe outdoor activities for children. When I was a child playgrounds were built on concrete, for the love of all that’s holy.
A asked me to go into the bounce house with him. You name it, you got it, kid. After all, he is the first person in the entire world who genuinely thinks I’m cool and I need to milk this for as long as I can. It was incredibly fun but I am now incredibly sore. Thankfully, there are no photos or videos of this event.
We ended up buying him a slime kit and a few emergent reader graphic novels. They were well-received.
Work-wise, I can’t lie…this was a tough week. I was slammed with meetings, blindsided by some emergent issues, and a bunch of projects I’m working on needed deliverables. I’m going to have to carve out some weekend time to keep myself and my projects on schedule. A bit of a bummer, but I don’t often have to work on weekends so it’s fine.
Time for the Friday 5! This week’s theme is aca-scuse me which I believe is a reference to the Pitch Perfect movies. I have never seen them, so maybe I’ll add the first one to the Friday Night Movie list. I should be watching a movie now, but I am exhausted and very sore and going to bed after I hit “post.”
- In what way have you recently been rebellious?
I am not a rebellious person by nature. For example, the first thing that came to mind that if a library ebook loan is coming close to expiring and I haven’t read it yet, I’ll put my Kindle into airplane mode so I can keep it a few more days. But that’s not even awful, because I think the library receives the file back anyway. - What fond memories do you have of camping out?
I have never camped out! I think the only camping I’d consider doing is if I had a camper. I love mattresses and clean sheets. - When did you last have a snow cone, or something similar?
I had a water ice from Rita’s last summer. My favorite flavors are lemon if I’m wearing a light colored shirt and chocolate if I’m wearing a dark colored shirt. Clumsy people have to adapt. - Where do you have difficulty fitting in? Where do you easily fit in?
It’s difficult fitting in with women who have children. Which is, most women. Conversation will always, naturally (and I’m not blaming) either begin with discussions of kids or end with discussion of kids. And that’s cool, I like kids. But I can’t contribute. And then someone will kindly ask how my dogs are and … yeah. I appreciate the effort but it’s still awkward. (BTW, National Infertility Week is next week.)
This is little awkward, but it’s very difficult to fit in to any community these days if you are not a hyper-fan. Say I enjoy baseball. I like the Phillies. I don’t watch every game, though, and I don’t keep track of every player on the roster. I keep an eye on the standings. Am I fan? I wouldn’t fit in to any of the Phillies fan communities, for sure. Maybe if there was a “people who suck at video games but keep playing them anyway” community, I’d fit in - How do you feel about bananas?
Love. I cut them up and add them to my yogurt. I bake banana bread on the regular and I really adore the chocolate dipped frozen bananas you can buy at the shore and at fairs.
Tomorrow morning I’ll be watching Prince Philip’s funeral. And maybe bake some banana bread.

I didn’t know about putting the Kindle into airplane mode. Good tip! Of course, I’ve never borrowed an ebook from our public library because, uh, we have a few things to settle. But when I get my act together I’m going to keep it in mind! See what a bad influence you are, you rebel?
