Friday 5: Aroma

It was a bumpy readjustment coming back from Florida.

On Monday, Dad and I ventured to Camp Holly for an airboat ride, which was JUST as amazing as it sounds!

Camp Holly is pretty nice, with beer that flows, an outdoor bandstand, an observation tower, a gift shop, and cornhole. We went on a Monday afternoon (as Retireds do) so the happening parts weren’t as happening.

St. Johns River

There were 11 of us on the boat. The captain sounded like Larry the Cable Guy, which was PERFECT.

We didn’t get a shot of the 2 of us but this is a good approximation.

Ready to find some gators.

We saw many gators. For every one or two the captain pointed out, I found 4 or 5 more on my own.

They were freaking EVERYWHERE!

We were out on the river for 40 minutes. It was a good way to celebrate my half-birthday, which I don’t usually celebrate anymore. We had a steak dinner that night, and I slept through the SpaceX launch at 12:25am.

On Tuesdays I flew home to these guys:

Lords of the Snugs.

And this shiteousness that fell Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Oh for the love of…

That tree is, thankfully, not mine. But it’s down the street. The storm pulled our Verizon line (no big, we don’t have Verizon) down low across the street. We called Verizon to have it removed. They said they’d be there within 24 hours. Overnight we believe a plow clipped the line. WM coiled it up near the utility pole and we called it good. We’re on the lookout for ANOTHER storm on Sunday night. I really, REALLY want some springtime weather.

I know it’s not spring yet. I know.

Time for the Friday 5. This week’s theme is Aroma. Let’s get to it

1. What’s something you enjoy that contains garlic?
Mmmmm. I love garlic. I love it in spaghetti sauce, in roasted garlic mashed potatoes, in chicken with GARLIC sauce, sauteed with shrimp, and in garlic rolls. I think it’s Papa Johns that offers a garlic butter dipping sauce with its pizza.

Unfortunately, WM hates the smell of it and claims the scent lingers for days so I don’t cook with it. Sad face. WM > garlic though.

2. What’s something you enjoy that contains ginger?
I like the pickled ginger that comes with sushi. And of course gingerbread cookies. But really strong ginger is offputting. I was at my fancy coffee place today and the woman next to me had ginger tea which stunk up a good 5 foot radius of the shop.

3. What’s something you enjoy that contains cloves?
You know…I don’t really cook with cloves. I enjoy the scent of clove cigarettes though. Makes me feel all 90s.

4. What’s something you enjoy that contains cinnamon?
Cinnamon sticky buns. Cinnamon raisin bagels. Snickerdoodles.

5. What’s something you enjoy that contains celery?
OH GOD NOTHING. Celery is green veg Satan. The tiniest celery seed in a dish ruins it for me. I swear if something on my plate is in proximity to a stalk of it I can taste the celery on it. Plus, celery has all of those strings that stick to the back of your throat and kill you.

No, not even on buffalo wings.

Another aroma I enjoy very much is fresh brewed coffee. I’m about to go enjoy it now on my sofa with some dog snugs.

Your brother’s favorite vegetable is celery.

But it’s barely even a vegetable! It’s water and that awful flavor!

Hello!

About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)

Well, that happened.
