loving the Martha Stewart Kool-aid

I like Martha Stewart. A lot. I subscribe to her magazine. I make her mashed potatoes and her macaroni and cheese. I dressed as her for Halloween last year. I was bummed when she was arrested, convicted, and imprisoned. I was happy when she got out.

So it was with part morbid curiosity and part joyful glee that I recorded her new “Martha” show that is on in my area weekdays at noon.

I’m 100% sure that this show is an effort to rehab her image. No more “evil, bitchy” Martha. Nope. This Martha is only somewhat reluctant to hobnob with commoners.

Anyhoo..this show has surpassed this summer’s “Dancing with the Stars” as my guiltiest TV pleasure.

Examples:

The show open features the song “Am I the Same Girl?” (link goes to a lyrics site…be careful of popups and crap) It starts with photos of Martha as a little girl, as a teen model (!!) and photos of her going into, and out of, PRISON.

Tuesday’s show was poncho day…where Martha demonstrated recipes she created while in PRISON. She used a plastic knife to cut the tops off of apples because she explained, matter of factly, that they could only purchase plastic cutlery in PRISON.

In today’s show…Diddy was teaching her to rap. She wore a belt buckle that read “MDIDDY” becuase that was the nickname she received when in PRISON.

Get the picture?

Anyway, she’s still a bit stumbly with the cue cards, and a bit awkward with talking to real people, and she stole the t-shirt folding trick from that Japanese site. But every now and again, she’ll make a crack about her ankle ‘bracelet’ that she had to wear, and she’ll genuinely laugh. And with each self-depreciating joke about the PRISON she becomes a bit more human. Who knew?

Charlotte (the spider outside my back door) caught a freaking LOCUST in her web tonight! I’m horrified, yet proud.

****
Went to yoga last night, and tonight I hit Curves for the 4th time. It’s still a heck of a workout for a sedentary person. I was finally weighed and measured tonight. (chest, waist, hips, abs, thigh, upper arm) They also recorded my BMI, which was depressing because the machine they used gauged me MUCH higher than the calculators I’ve used online.

****
Thank goodness tomorrow’s Friday. Work’s been a busy mess. And tomorrow we say ‘safe travels’ to Coworker R, who’s up and quit so she can drive across country and find a job in a warmer part of the country. So gutsy! I’ll miss her terribly…we have lunch every Wednesday and decompress after the Big Weekly Meeting. Must not cry at work. I will no longer cry at change.

Ok this might sound a bit sexist, but I think Martha Stewart is great!!!!! I mean she cooks, she cleans, she bakes, she sews, and she brings home the bacon!!! It just doesn’t get better than that 🙂

Hello!

About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)
