Yeeeeeeah. So it’s been a while. And there’s a 500-lb elephant sitting in the middle of my blog that I have to acknowledge.
The Wandering Minstrel (who is much cuter than a 500-lb elephant) has moved out here to NJ. He’s here in ChezGypsy with me. And I really haven’t found a good way to tell you. Sure, I’ve hinted hither and yon about his visits and things we’ve done together. Flowers for my birthday and Valentine’s day. That kind of stuff. But as much as I can blog about personal things as my weight (ugh) and my job situation (lovely, thanks) and my varying moods (I love you! I HATE YOU!), I have a hard time saying, “Hey! I have a boyfriend!” Or “Hey, I’m living with a guy!”
I’ve known him from World of Warcraft for quite a while. I met him in person in October. We’ve been doing the long-distance one-visit-a-month gig. We chatted nightly via webcam and Skype. And it hard, but okay. But some things changed in his life that made it less-stupid for him to move out here. Please believe that we deliberated about this for a while and although it looks reboundy*, it makes the most sense for us right now. At best, it works out splendidly. At worst, we break up, I have a roommate for a bit and he and I craft new lives separately.
Kim 1.0 would have cast a judgmental eye at our living situation. But as I’ve grown older, my blacks and whites have faded to nice grey shades and things that seemed SO! SCANDALOUS! to me in my teens are now a “What’s the big deal?” I’m a divorced woman nearing 35 years old. I can no longer sit prettily in dewy grass with daisies in my hair and have unicorns lay their heads in my lap.
And I’ll always be reluctant to post romantic goo. And, like I do with the rest of my family and people I care about, I won’t blog about him – about US – without his permission.
But he’s here. And right now, at this very moment, I am happy. And that feels great to write.

*Good gravy, I know it looks reboundy. And very stupid. And I’ve done the “met a guy on the internet” gig before. And it ended not-so-well. I know this. You don’t have to remind me of it.

Sitting around the house on her computer seemed a sure-fire way to get somebody to flirt with me.

As somewhat faithful (albeit fairly silent) follower of this blog I have to say I kinda saw it coming. It was either that or the Minstrel was your token gay friend (the only other explanation I had for what seemed like a pretty close relationship).
If it’s any consolation I met my wife online, moved across the country (and back again!) and we’ve been married for ten years now with two kids. Like any “normal” relationship it works or it doesn’t.
Glad to hear you’re happy and that’s really all that counts. Good luck!

I get that a lot, DMadCat, as all well-dressed, articulate men of my age do.

Kim…you deserve to be this happy! Though we had our not-so-happy ending, I’ve always wished and will continue to wish nothing but happiness and blessings for you. Wandering Minstrel, you have a very special woman at your side. Treat her in all the special, loving ways she so rightly deserves! Best wishes and good luck to you both!

Kim, thank you for sharing this. Everyone deserves to be happy and in love. My wife and I have been separated for two years now. I was very alone until I reconnected with an old friend I dated in college who also came off a bad marriage. She completed me and we were each others’ best friend. Sadly, we recently ended our relationship over something I said. I killed 14 years of friendship with the one woman who made sense to me. So now that I’m alone, I understand how precious and valuable love really is, and that we should be open and honest with those we love and treasure every moment. Congratualtions and I wish you all the happiness in the world.

Hi Kim, Let’s all sing “Happy days are here again….” I try to look at life as a book, with various chapters. Some are happier than others, but you always know that one will end, and another, quite different one, will begin. Sometimes the changes are small, sometimes major. There’s always an element that you can control, and other “currents” that are out of our control. The main thing, to me, is to try to keep the book interesting, for yourself. It’s not about money, status or other phoney stuff, it’s just what puts a smile on your face ( friends help a lot ). Keep smiling Petey G.
