Last Monday I went into the office to have my laptop looked at. It turns out all she needed as a blowout (as do I) but I thought going into Philly would be a fun diversion from the usual stay at home boredom. Until I arrived there. The pandemic has hit almost everyone very hard, but seeing how empty Center City Philadelphia was at 8am on a Monday morning was jarring. I usually take the PATCO line to 15th & Locust Streets, duck down Sydenham past my Fancy Coffee Friday spot, take my ...
Friday 5: Chip Chat
Happy Friday, friends! I'm typing this from the patio, where I have been sitting since 4:31pm when I logged out of the laptop and dashed out of the door. I'm over working from home every day. Over it. I want my "work mode" bubble back where I'm not distracted by lawn mowers/leaf blowers every day or by my knucklehead dogs who haven't had to hold their pee for more than 3 hours during the day since 2020. I want to fill my water bottle without feeling compelled to move dishes into or out of ...
Murphy, November 2020
WM's schedule involves teaching his classes via Zoom in the morning and an asynchronous block of time in the afternoon where his classes are open for anyone who wants to drop in. (They don't.) The desk was his from the old high school and was going to be trashed. He asked to take it home instead, and he refinished it into this beauty. You can also ...
Our Office Annex
WM and I are both working from home, likely until the end of the world. We usually share the office. However, he teaches via Zoom all morning so if I have a morning meeting, I relocate to the upstairs "office annex" aka our kitchen. (Every office chair needs a sweater on it. It's mandatory.) The natural light can't be beat, but my desk neighbors eat all day long. As part of the arrangement, if WM has a Zoom meeting in the afternoon, he relocates either upstairs or to his ...
Back to the (Home) Office
I was on 'vacation' last week which basically means I was not online for work. I *was* online for an annual conference of a professional organization that *I'm* a member of. Background: I work for TNP, an association for medical professionals. Think the AMA, but not the AMA. I belong to ASAE, which is the association for people who work with associations. (so meta!) Last week was ASAE's annual conference and I spent 10am-5pm Monday-Wednesday watching presentations. I really, really love going to ...
