Valentine card haul 2023

a layout of received valentine cards

I like receiving mail and it turns out I like sending mail as well. It's one of the least expensive ways to brighten someone's day, and you can be creative as you want. I'm a member of the MetaFilter online community and a small group of people who enjoy sending and receiving cards set up monthly and holiday card swaps. I often write about the cards I make and send out as part of , but I wanted to feature the lovely cards I received in return. Here's my 2023 haul: Some are store ...

2023 Valentine cards

three valentine cards: each one has a front made of torn pages from old books, and leftover cardstock

For a few reasons I hadn't felt much like crafting for months. I bought the cutest Halloween dies, colored and cut a bunch of bats which ended up tucked away in an envelope for next year. I bought even cuter Santa dies and they didn't even make it out of the packaging. While I'm never the best at my craft-of-the-moment, I recognize that it's good for me to tap into my creative side. One evening while rotting my brain away on TikTok, I saw a video about junk journaling. People who junk ...

Ow.

I have a love/hate relationship with Valentine's Day. I know it's a celebration of love, in all of its sickness and glory. But more often than not, it falls during the workweek and is therefore pretty uneventful for working folk. I don't ask for flowers, I don't ask for candy, I don't ask for jewelry. All I ask for is a card big enough to warrant the "extra postage needed" warning on the envelope. (Aw, c'mon...it's not like he's MAILING it to me.) Breakfast: 1/2 bottle of skim milk (70 cal); ...

Valentine’s Day disappointment

Another VDay come and gone. And it was pretty darn uneventful. We didn't make any plans, so we ended up staying in. Cards exchanged, some Dark Age of Camelot played. Chinese Takeout for dinner. Thor fell asleep at 9ish, and here I am.I have a hard time dealing with Valentine's Day. Part of me wants the whole nine yards -- the fancy dinner w/me in a red dress and tumbling curls, the red roses, a pretty bracelet perhaps. The other part knows that VDay has turned into a commercial nightmare; ...

Happy Birthday Mom!Actually, her bday is February 13th. The date above says the 14th, but since I haven't slept yet, I still consider ither birthday. Tonight we went to the Borgata, where we ate a nice dinner and gambled. It was hella crowded, what with the V-Day and President's Weekend crowds, and the bozos that figure Friday the 13th sounds like a lucky day to go gambling. I couldn't get a seat at the Roulette tables, so I resorted to slots. Did OK. Between Thor and I, only $70 or so was lost. ...

Hello!

About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)
