I loved the concept of the Internet from the first moment I learned about bulletin boards and email in college. At that time I didn't have a real computer at home, opting instead to write my papers on a portable Brother word processor which, as a JCPenney catalog associate, I bought for 50% off because it was returned merchandise. In 1994 we bought a real PC, a modem, and the Prodigy software which introduced me to the World Wide Web. My Prodigy username was KYFX39A, but I was Gypsy72 in the ...
Autumn Webkeeping
As my blog approaches its eighteenth birthday it's time for some webkeeping. I created a weekly newsletter that you can subscribe to and receive links to my blog posts. It is sends on Fridays at noon Eastern time. If I don't blog, I don't know what happens with the email so I'm considering this both a way to get content to my handful of loyal readers and a way to keep me writing. To subscribe, fill out this form. Subscribe by email Have links ...
Chocolate Chip Thursday
Day two of "business professional" and I adeptly scaled it back down to fit in, although I still looked sharp. "Sharp as a dart," my grandmother would say. Mom says I'm a lot like her when I become impatient and brusque. I'll take it. To be honest, I could stand to be even more impatient sometimes. She'll be gone 17 years at 2:22am tomorrow morning. I remember the time exactly because was there at the hospital with her. I was bereft when she died but everyone around me was even more bereft ...
And I'm telling you, I'm not going
Turns out, when your dog dies, your heater/ac dies, your surviving dog is suddenly old, your country elects a misogynist whose party wants to roll back healthcare (esp for women) over a woman who was 10x more qualified, and your teen idol dies, you kind of give up on blogging. The domain name is a bit of an embarrassment these days and you're afraid to move the blog to the new one for fear it'll break everything, hosting costs money, maybe you should just let it go. And then...someone tries to ...
Take a sad song and make it better
The leg's much better. I kept off of it as much as I could this weekend, skipping the bead show and the craft show and only going out for breakfast on Sunday morning. I'll stick with the knee brace for the rest of the week. The stomach's better, as I ate blandly all weekend. Feedly's not bad at all. I'm still learning my way around it. There seems to be a lot more functions than Reader had. So yeah...things get better in just a weekend. I'm a lucky woman. ...
May 2007 LGN stats and Second Saturday
Figured I'd start screenshotting this, since my continued writing of these terms are most likely skewing the search engines. May 2007 brought 30,070 page views (+80.8% to last year) /15,900 visits (+56.6% to last year) to my little web abode. As always, I'm humbled and amazed by the numbers and you guys. Thank you very much for your continued visits. :) If you have more time to kill, please visit the blogs I have in my right hand bar. They are where I pass the time during my free ...
Yeah…I think I'll keep you around
I just renewed kimberussell.com for 2 more years. LadyGypsy dot com is owned by a guy who sells subliminal hypnosis tapes and "magick amulets." I once (very politely) contacted him so I could take over the name, since it's never been used. He (very impolitely) told me no, and then told me to surround myself with white light, because he was going to put a curse on me. True story. Wish I had kept the emails. Someday, I will obtain ladygypsy.com. Then I'll link it to sites that debunk subliminal ...
Shameless attention whoring (what's new?)
So I was browsing my usual list of blogs and found this internet meme on my buddy Brian's site. (Well, it's really a LiveJournal but I won't judge, since I have a MySpace I barely look at.) It looked interesting and since one rule said you had to respond with the statement "I am a shameless attention whore!" I knew it was one I had to do. If you want to play along, rules are as such: 1. Leave me a comment saying, "I am shameless attention whore." 2. I'll then respond by asking you up to five ...
Statistics – March 2006
Average visits to kimberussell.com per day March 2005: 129 February 2006: 250 March 2006: 334 Let's break out the math-fu. That's a 33.6% increase over February, and a 158.9% increase over this month last year! This is getting way creepy! Again, welcome to everyone new! I'm finding a bunch of new blogs to read via the comments. :) I'm Kim, your hostess and authoress of this humble site, whic is composed mostly of a blog. I have an about me page up and running. It's incomplete, but then ...
Nomenclature
Until further notice, Thor will be known as Baron von Plaque. Or BvP if I'm feeling lazy. 6/3 Update: I, on the other hand, will NOT be adopting the style of Baroness von Plaque. This all arose from our watching the movie Hackers, where the bad guy was called The Plague. Thor BvP wanted a cool hacker name, and Plaque evolved from Plague. We went from Lord Plaque to Baron von Plaque. Hackers also features a very young Angelina Jolie, my new girlcrush (sorry, CZJ) who is now starring in Mr. ...
Holy crap!
In my small slice of the world, we've become accustomed to ignoring weather forecasts. Especially the ones that trumpet "Snow! Snow! Snow! We're all going to die under the weight of it! Head for the hills!"Hence, I went into denial Saturday morning when I awoke to see a dusting of snow, and snow continuing to fall. The day progressed and the snow continued to fall. The Wings home opener was cancelled. So we lazed about the house, watching the first episode of the Apprentice (I learn so much ...
It’s an update! And a date!
Yes! More updating! I tweaked my styles a bit. Now the left bar and the right bar should be the same width. I also want to redo the top graphic. It looks too empty and not wide enough. My archives still need to be prettied up a bit. I'm showing the kind of love for this site that I SHOULD be showing toward my living room. Good news! The Sellers' Agent called our Buyers' Agent last night and asked if we'd be willing to settle on May 14 instead of the aforementioned April 5, May 7, or May 31. ...
