Friday 5: What fools these mortals be!

Happy Friday! Today is New Kids on the Block Day. This has been carved into my brain since April 24, 1989, when Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis (still alive!) declared it to be so. I can’t remember what I walked into a room for five minutes ago, but I remember New Kids on the Block Day.

Along with observing that, I am celebrating:
1) the repair and return of my Jeep after almost 3 weeks (it needed some rewiring), and
2) the end of my stupid post-viral rash.

Last night the itchiness began to fade. Today I’m not actively itchy anymore, which is FANTASTIC, but I’m in that delicate phase where if I scratch my skin, it will become itchy. It’s so dry, but I don’t want to touch it overmuch yet.

And Murphy has gone 13 days without vomiting or diarrhea. ♥

Today’s Friday 5 theme is theme is What fools these mortals be – a tribute to Shakespeare, whose birthday was yesterday.

  1. What light through yonder window breaks?
It’s the setting sun shining through my office window.
  2. What do you read, my lord?
This lady is currently reading Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by VE Schwab and I’m really enjoying it.
  3. What noise is this?
‘Tis the Mister Softee truck, making its Friday evening rounds.
  4. What three things does drink especially provoke?
    Festivity, slumber, and a headache.
  5. What revels are in hand?
It’s NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK DAY and I don’t feel like clawing my skin off. The next time April 24th falls on a Friday will be in 2037 and I hope Scrivener’s still doing the Friday 5 and I’m still blogging!

My favorite New Kids on the Block song was never released as a single. It’s from Face the Music, their last album before the big fourteen-year hiatus. It’s called You Got The Flavor and it was written by Teddy Riley. It’s leans hard into the New Jack Swing sound. I was 21 years old at the time, and this song was everything.

And on that note, I’m going to Step by Step into the weekend, feeling less itchy and very much ready to Hang Tough.

Hello!

About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)

Well, that happened.
