Friday 5: Why deny the obvious?

Happy Friday! Today is National Tropical Fruit Day (yes to all of them!) and National Caviar Day (tried once, not for me and my working class palate). I’m starting this during my lunch and will probably finish after work because today is NOT my Summer Friday. That’s okay, I’ll live.

friday july 18

I had a pretty social workweek with a Phish concert1 on Wednesday and a family cookout on Thursday. WM continues to improve every day. My first garden tomatoes are beginning to turn red and if things don’t go south I should have beaucoup cherry tomatoes. Not a bad problem to have.

This week’s Friday 5 theme is why deny the obvious and it’s immediately apparent to me that this is a Paul Simon themed post. Let’s go!

  1. What has you feelin’ groovy?
Summer. Summer! I’m kicking around in flipflops and baggy shorts, reading books outside until it’s too dark to see. It’s still Wawa hoagiefest for another week or so and I have a trip to HersheyPark on the horizon and might escape to the beach for a few hours next week. I’ve been in a laid back frame of mind and I need to buckle down on housework this weekend to make up for it.
  2. Where do you often stop when you are homeward bound?
This isn’t a paid promotion for Wawa2 but lately I’ve been swinging by there for a cherry vanilla Diet Dr. Pepper from their Freestyle machine. It’s very summery.
  3. When were you most recently awake far too late in the evening?
I didn’t go to sleep after the Phish concert until after 2am. I’m glad I had the next day off.
  4. Where might you go to hear the sound of silence?
My local library is still a pretty calm and quiet place to be. The children’s library is on another floor which helps.
  5. What proves you are still crazy after all these years?
This blog. There is almost twenty-three years of proof that I am still crazy, just in a different, more elderly way. I’ve been blogging for almost half of my life. I should probably back up the database.

Like I said earlier, this weekend I have got to clean. I’m due to clean the Keurig, Brita pitcher, and ice machine. I have to scrub the kitchen counter, the toilets, and the hallway wall because Murphy likes to lean against it and rub his back every time he passes by. I wash and change my sheets every Saturday, but this week I’m due to wash the blankets as well. I do that monthly, especially since Murphy sleeps in bed with us. Speaking of Murphy, I need to clean poop and mow the backyard. I can probably go another week without mowing the front. I have to break down boxes for recycling, too. Things are dusty too but I have to chip away at that a little at a time because this house is filled with fussy little tchotchkes that take forever to dust and dust around. I’ll check in on Monday and let you know how I did.

What’s my favorite Paul Simon song? I think it’s Bridge over Troubled Water, but it’s this version by John Legend. Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Tons of fun, but more about that in a separate post. ↩︎
  2. But as always I’m open to a partnership. I will happily sell out for Wawa. ↩︎

There is so much to choose from, but it’s still a very easy choice for me. “The Obvious Child” is my favorite, favorite, favorite song of is. Everything else amazing vies for numbers two through twenty.

Hello!

About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)
