Happy Friday, which is also National Cranberry Relish Day. I don’t recognize that photo at all because my preferred cranberry side comes in a can and has ridges on the side of it.
I’ve been absent for a while. I have a bunch of shitty drafts but haven’t been able to make any of them remotely publishable. Is it the doldrums of November? Is post-election depression? Is it no longer having an office in Philadelphia to go to? Is it being unable to escape the Wicked movie press? All of the above. But I’m here and ready to Friday it up.
This week’s theme is And the world laughs with you. I’ll do the Googling for you: It’s from a poem written by Ella Wheeler Wilcox called Solitude.
“Laugh, and the world laughs with you;
Weep, and you weep alone.
For the sad old earth must borrow its mirth,
But has trouble enough of its own.”
It sounds about right, doesn’t it? Let’s get to it.
- Among people who are professionally funny, who most reliably makes you laugh?
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler together. - Which films have made you laugh most?
The Big Lebowski. Clerks. - Whose comedy leaves you flat?
Kevin Hart. He just doesn’t do it for me at all. - When did you most recently laugh aloud at something you read?
I laughed at the story of Linda McMahon being tapped to lead the Department of Education. At least Dr. Oz is a doctor, y’know? - What are some of your favorite novelty songs?
I always enjoyed Christmas at Ground Zero by Weird Al. It hits me right in the GenX childhood nuclear war trauma. And also Dominick the Donkey. I heard it my whole life growing up, but as an adult I learned it’s a pretty regional song. I linked it below so you can experience its glory.
Have a great weekend. I’m going to bang out some of these drafts this weekend.
(hee haw hee haw!)
