Friday 5: How many roads must a person walk down?

Happy Friday, which is also National Golf Lover Day (not me, I hate it!) and World Smile Day (earlier this year someone on Tiktok commented that I should fix my fucked-up teeth and that has stuck with me, but not enough to get braces). It’s also the second of a very long stretch of five-day work weeks for me. It was a summer of much PTO which dripped into September. I am WILDLY out of five-day work week shape!

Let’s hit up the Friday 5! This week’s theme is How many roads must a person walk down, which is a line from Blowing in the Wind. I appreciate the gender inclusivity!

friday october 4
  1. What is the most grownup thing you did this week?
I called a plumber and arranged for the purchase and delivery of a new hot water heater. Our hot water heater is from 1996 and while it’s not leaking it’s more of a warm water heater now.

It was supposed to be delivered today; however, our township decided that today was the day they were going to repave my street. We are rescheduled for next week. This whole damn week was full of dumb adulting tasks. Working from home is a blessing because I don’t have to take time off to be home for repairs and I don’t have to fight for weekend dog grooming appointments. But it’s also a curse because it’s easy to fall into a Cinderelly, Cinderelly trap where any drip of spare time through the day is spent running the dishwasher or doing the laundry or emptying the dishwasher.

  2. What is the most adventurous thing you did this week?
I went apple picking on Sunday. That’s not adventurous though. The trees aren’t tall and the hayride wagon doesn’t have hay anymore. But I did make a killer apple bread (recipe via Chocolate Covered Katie).

  3. What is the most foolhardy thing you did this week?
I had a sangria on Wednesday night with dinner but without drinking enough water throughout the day. My rule now is to drink a glass of water with every alcoholic drink. I woke up with a pounding headache the next morning. No regrets, though. It was a good sangria.

  4. What is the most community-conscious thing you did this week?
    Bit my tongue on Facebook.

  5. What is the the quietest thing you did this week?
I’m a very quiet crier now.

This is my preferred version of Blowing in the Wind.

Have a great weekend – I’ll be at a book festival and celebrating the lovely Kristen’s birthday!

Hello!

About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)

Well, that happened.
