Friday 5: Pew Slag

Happy, er, Saturday. I was very sleepy last night, even missed movie night which was Encino Man – a movie that I put on the list! In Bummer, dude.

This week’s Friday 5 is PEW SLAG.

  1. What recently made you Proudest of yourself?
To buy our house 6 years ago, I liquidated the 401(k) account that I had from my Courier-Post days. It is touted as a terrible idea to do such a thing, but we wanted to buy a house and there was no other way we could ever save up $50,000 cash for a 20% down payment and related costs. We were hit with a tax penalty, but overall, it was well worth it. I would do it again. For six years, the leftover money was left sitting as cash in the new retirement account we opened through the financial advisor we used. On Tuesday, I finally called him and had it invested in some funds for a 2045 retirement date. It doesn’t seem like a lot, but I built such a tall emotional barrier around dealing with that money.
  2. Whom do you Envy?
    People who enjoy exercise.
  3. When did you most recently express Wrath?
Colin Powell died. On the day that he died, the headlines from the major non-Fox news outlets that was Colin Powell died of complications from COVID-19. And that he was fully vaccinated. Um, okay, but Colin Powell was also 84 and had undergone cancer treatment which causes immunosuppression. But you had to click into the articles to read that and with most news behind paywalls anymore, who does that?

As a results, normal, non-consipiracy-minded people started questioning the effectiveness of the vaccine, based on the stupid clickbaity headlines. I was very wrathful about it.

The media can be such bad actors when it comes to sales and clicks and pageviews, but I don’t know what the solution is to that. News employees need to be paid a living wage. But it should be free (or very cheap, like a 75-cent newspaper) to know what’s going on around you. I pay for two news sites, but not ALL of the news sites.

4. What do you eat when you are too Slothful to prepare something or to get takeout?
Lately, it’s been potato chips and jarred onion dip. I was on a DoorDash kick for a while but ye gods it’s so expensive.

5. What or whom do you Lust for?
Currently this guy — the superior of the Chrises.

PEW SLAG is an acronym for the seven deadly sins, by the way. The remaining two are avarice and gluttony which the other 99% of my blog posts cover very well.

Weekend plans include CAE studying (aiming for 2 hours today and 2.5 hours tomorrow), building a shelf for my tiny bathroom vanity, and finalizing my Halloween costume. I’m not going anywhere, but I’m dressing up as an Among Us character to hand out candy. Don’t be impressed. it’s basically a big red sweatsuit.

Hahahaha. I laughed aloud: “The remaining two are avarice and gluttony which the other 99% of my blog posts cover very well.”

I’ve already brushed my teeth. It’s 11:06 p.m. And I’m eating an untoasted PopTart. Sloth or gluttony?

Hemsworth is 100% the superior Chris!
I like to see the media being called out on their deception, because you’re spot on. People read the headline and not the article, especially when the articles are behind paywalls.

Hello!

About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)
