Cookie Swap: Candy cane Kiss Cookies

Sunday I went to a Cookie Swap at Kristen’s mother’s house. (I just remembered I was going to do a new header for Kristen’s blog. Gah!)

Look, ma! I'm food-bloggin!
Look, ma! I’m food-bloggin!

I used this recipe for Candy Cane Kiss Cookies from Recipe Girl, except I used 1/2 teaspoon of peppermint extract instead of 1. My batches made 5 dozen cookies instead of 2 1/2 dozen. I don’t know how that happened, but it happened with both batches. Maybe I should have gone with a ball larger than an inch?

Whatever. It worked for me! I had enough for the swap, and enough to keep at home for my own cookie stash.

My biggest source of entertainment on food blogs isn’t discovering new recipes…it’s the comments to each recipe.

  • Can I substitute regular sugar for powdered sugar?
  • Can I bake for 10 minutes at 450 instead of 15 minutes at 350?
  • I substituted fruit leather for the colored sprinkles and it turned out horrible!
  • Do you have a vegan alternative to the steak and eggs breakfast?

If I had a food blog, I’d answer yes to all of it. Sure…stir the batter in a pot on a medium burner for eight hours and you’ll still get a cake! Of course you can use Cream of Wheat instead of Cream of Tartar! Sure, an iPad smashed on top of the dough is just as good as rolling it out with a pin!

So…you were able to put a few of those in the envelope with our Christmas card, right? RIGHT? 🙂

    Hello!

    About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)
