one for the scrapbook

On this day…19 days before my 33rd birthday…I found my first gray hair.

I haven’t colored my hair in about 2 months…I’m trying to let the natural color come in. It’s a bit darker than the blonde we’re all used to.** There’s about 1 1/2 inches worth of roots, which doesn’t look bad yet. I was examining the color this morning in the bathroom mirror and I saw a light hair.

“Odd,” I thought. “This hair should be dark…it hasn’t been dyed.”

Then it hit me.

I plucked it out (spare me the old wives’ tales) and held it in front of my dark brown skirt.

Gray. Before I tossed it away, I silently named it “Publicus.” (the name of our new content management system that we’ve been working on for the last 113 days)

I received no sympathy from BvP — he’s been dealing with the silver since his early 20s.

Which leads me to ask you, dear readers…if you’ve discovered gray hair…how old were you when you saw your first one?

**I dyed my hair light brown before the hostess pic was taken. It’s lighter now (stupid Loreal crap washed out) but I’ve been told by so many people that that crummy cellphone pic was my best hostess pic EVAR that I’m reluctant to take a new one.

Oy, Kim… I definitely discovered my first gray hair (or is it grey…?) last year, when I was just 20 years old. Now I have about three. And on a head of dark, dark hair, they certainly stick out. Consider yourself lucky (very, very lucky)! 😉

At least you don’t have the problem some of us GUYS do… which is… in about 10 years I’ll probably be happy to find ANY hair up front… no matter WHAT the color!

    😉

(Yeah… I should save that hostess photo to disk before you snatch it away from us. Hey! I know! I’ll make my own webpage where I save ALL your old hostess photos… )

I concur with Dave above! I would trade anything for one gray hair in exchange for the prograine I’ve been using on my head.

Bah, I beat you by 11 years (I was 22 when I got my first one).

I’ve got a friend who is two weeks older than me, and [what’s left of] his hair is almost all grey. My hair is jet-black when compared to his, even though my grey hairs are noticable. Hey, better grey than bald is what I say.

I guess it truly isn’t the age but the miles that get you!

Hello!

About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)

Well, that happened.
