Friday 5: A fresh start

a hastily scrawn friday January 2 image done in MS paint.
I ran out of calendar images and don’t feel like making more tonight so I made this in MS Paint.

Happy Friday! Today is National Cream Puff Day (they’re not bad) and National Buffet Day. Let’s talk about this. I LOVE a buffet and we really don’t have a lot of good buffets around. Or even middling buffets. Years ago WM and I used to frequent Old Country Buffet for breakfast and always had a good experience. That closed pre-Covid. Do you remember when Pizza Hut had a lunch buffet? Bring back buffets!

It’s also the last day off before we all go back to work on Monday. I don’t wanna talk about it. This year at work is going to be a rough one with a lot of moving parts.

This week’s Friday 5 theme is A Fresh Start. Let’s goooo…

Movie questions are tough for me. Even though I’ve watched more movies in the last 5 years than I have in my entire life, it’s never enough to be able to easily answer questions about movies. I also don’t have a lot of favorite movies. Let’s bring WM in for some better answers.

  1. What is your favorite movie about a fresh start?
Me: Let’s go with Groundhog Day. Plenty of fresh starts were had, but only one was correct.
WM: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Indy gets to have a real relationship with his Dad. Neither dramatically changes, they just accept each other for who they are.
    Me: Nerd.
  2. What is your favorite post-apocalyptic movie?
Me: None. I don’t watch post-apocalyptic movies or dystopian movies.
WM: Zombieland. I thoroughly enjoy that movie. Proving a zombie apocalypse can be funny!
  3. What is your favorite animal movie?
    Me: Charlotte’s Web
    WM: Ratatouille!
  4. What is your favorite me-against-nature movie?
Me: I don’t watch those either.
WM: The Call of the Wild. I enjoyed the book, too.
Me: That’s the movie with —
WM: Harrison Ford! And a dog.
  5. What is your favorite movie about forgiveness, atonement, or mercy?
    Me:
It’s a Wonderful Life. I watched it for the first time two weeks ago and the way people forgave George for still employing his idiot, $8000-losing uncle made my heart swell.
WM: The Empire Strikes Back. Darth Vader manages to atone for the sins of Anakin Skywalker.
    Me: Nerd.

Have a fantastic weekend and if you get to a breakfast buffet, think of me! I think I have a mug post for Monday. No guarantees!

Previous Post Fifty-three Wednesdays in 2025, with words

Hello!

About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)

Well, that happened.
