Friday 5: ICYMI

Happy Saturday! I fell asleep before posting this, enjoy Friday’s entry that spent the night in my drafts folder.

Happy Friday! Today is National Day of Encouragement (go you!) and National Video Games Day. I think I’m fortunate to have grown up in the age of video games. I’m currently playing Skyrim and Disney Dreamlight Valley.

I actually had to restart my Skyrim game because I adopted a child1 who couldn’t accept gifts. Her inventory was full of the flowers and baskets she was selling in her sad orphan life. Since she was no longer a merchant, I couldn’t buy them off her anymore. A suggested fix was to BEAT HER until she dropped them but no. But no. Just no. I restarted, maxed my speech skill until I could buy the baskets from her as well, bought her inventory out, then adopted her.

Anyway, what a week. It was my first five-day workweek in a while, and there was a little shakeup at work. I still have a job — in fact, I have more job — but it’s going to be awkward and difficult for a while.

My core values of “everyone deserves to be safe, loved, and warm” were SORELY tested this week. Does anyone deserve to be murdered by being shot in the neck while speaking on a college campus? No. Am I going to feel bad for an angry little podcaster who cultivated an astounding amount of hate? Also no. I’ll reserve my empathy for the families of the people killed in mass shootings.

It is ridiculously difficult to be a nice person in the 2025 version of the USA.

But it’s late and I’m yawning2, so let’s tackle the Friday 5! The theme is ICYMI, an abbreviation for In Case You Missed It.

  1. When did you most recently find it difficult to MYOB?
MYOB – Mind Your Own Business. It is always tough to stay out of it when work drama crops up. I just want to help, but sometimes it’s better to keep my head down. Yes, this is vague. MYOB!
  2. When did you most recently experience FOMO? Bonus follow-ups: What would you replace the F with to describe your usual feelings about MO? What would replace the MO to describe something you have FO?
The thing about FOMO, (Fear of Missing Out) is that you do miss out on experiences when you skip events. I had a lot of FOMO about the recent Dave Matthews Band shows in Camden because time really got away from me this summer. But, I did miss out, so maybe the key is to Be Okay With Missing Out (BOWMO).

I suffer more from FOFTPMBEM – Fear of Forgetting To Pay My Bills Every Month. At least once a month I gasp with fear that I missed a credit card or utility payment. (Note to self: pay bills this weekend.)
  3. In some field of entertainment you care about, who is the GOAT?
Honestly, I have been staring at this question for half an hour. I don’t know who the GOAT — greatest of all time — would be in any field of entertainment. Have I lived long enough to make that decision?
  4. How would you describe your OOTD?
(OOTD – Outfit of the Day) My tee is from Phillies Spring Training, my hoodie is from Huckleberry Square in Seattle, and my sweatpants are from Walt Disney World.
  5. Expressing your feelings right now, how might you complete a sentence beginning “NGL?”
NGL (Not gonna lie), it pisses me right off that flags are at half-staff across the country for an itty-bitty turnip of a human being who was a civilian. But as long as the White House and Capitol parking lots are filled with clown cars, here we are.

And that’s all! Monday’s post will either be about the rising cost of a Disney vacatoin or about a cute pumpkin decoration I painted. I haven’t written them yet, but one will be here.

Have a fantastic weekend! If you need me, I’ll be avoiding the news and looking for snacks.

  1. This was a complicated decision, not because of my infertility making it extra emotional, but because my character doesn’t go home every night. But this child was literally sleeping in a snowdrift every night so she seems responsible enough to be able to lock the door. ↩︎
  2. Note from Saturday Morning Kim: FORESHADOWING! ↩︎

Hello!

About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)

Well, that happened.
