Friday 5: In vino veritas

Happy Friday! Today is National Mochi Day (I really need to try this), Global Sleep Under the Stars Night (I’ve never been camping), and most importantly, a Summer Friday. It would be my second-to-last Summer Friday; however, I took next Friday off, so I have two more after this one.

friday august 8

We are creeping into mid-August. and I’ve only been to the shore once. And you know what? I’m okay with that. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the beach vibes but this year I don’t feel like making the hour-plus drive down and the hour-plus drive back. That’s it. If there were a bus or reliable train — NJ Transit isn’t reliable — I’d opt for that. Maybe next year I’ll feel differently, but for now I am enjoying the summer from my hammock. No car necessary.

Let’s hit up the Friday 5! This week’s theme is In vino veritas.

  1. What would you like to whine about today?
There are too many mosquitos this year. Even when I run my little Thermacell I’m constantly slapping them away at night. And without the Thermacell it’s even worse. I’m lucky in that I don’t react to mosquito bites very often, but the buzzing around my ears really freaks me out.
  2. How do you feel about wine?
I enjoy a moody merlot or a cabernet sauvignon. I’ve never been able to discern notes and flavors like others can — I just know what I like. Liking wine is not my entire personality, though.
  3. How do you feel about grapes?
I love grapes! Purple, red, or green, they are a decadent treat. I love them with white cheddar Cheez-Its.
  4. Perhaps it is true that in wine, there is truth, but where else is truth?
Not to go all Mary Oliver on you, but I think the only genuine truth is in nature. If a plant needs water, it lets us know. It doesn’t hide it. If factories and corporations are careless with waste and emissions, we end up with warm winters, long scorching summers, and a million mosquitoes.
  5. Do you have a favorite drinking glass or cup?
Sometime around 2007-2008, McDonalds sold Coca-Cola branded glasses. (image here) We have six or seven of these and not only are they are amazing quality, they feel good in your hand. I miss the days when fast food places had decent promotional giveaways.

That’s all, lovelies. I’m working on a book roundup post for Monday. Have a wonderful weekend!

Hello!

About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)

Well, that happened.
