Happy Friday! Today is National Barbecue Day (yes with grilled corn on the side, please!) and National Mimosa Day, which feels like it should be the second Sunday in May to correspond with Mother’s Day. I do like me a mimosa, but I don’t brunch enough in my non-vacation life to have them often. Putting it another way, we don’t go to breakfast places that would serve mimosas.

Yesterday was WM’s birthday! We kept the celebration low-key, which is how we like it. And it’s also why I’m blogging this while eating leftover seafood alfredo! This has been an emotional whirlwind of a week on multiple levels and I am glad to have some time to just chill.
Here’s the Friday 5! This week’s theme is This was the week that was, in 1969.
1. How do you feel about bowling? (May 9: Billy Hardwick wins the Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America all-star bowling tournament)
I love bowling! I bowled in high school and one of the things I was most sad about when my frozen shoulder saga began was that I couldn’t bowl. Mind you, I hadn’t bowled in years but still. Now that I’m 95% back to normal, I vow that I will bowl again.
2. How do you feel about the comedy of Monty Python, and do you have a favorite bit? (May 11: Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin form Monty Python)
Ehhhhhhhhhhh. Because a bunch of kids at my high school lunch table would recite the lines over and over and over for years I hated it before I saw any of it. And what was also weird is that I never knew how my contemporaries were watching these programs. I didn’t have a very PBS family and I’m not even sure any of the BBC channels were on our early cable bundles. I’ve seen bits and bobs of it through the years and while it’s always described as absurd I find it juvenile.
3. How many Cate Blanchett films have you seen, and do you have a favorite? (May 14: Cate Blanchett is born)
Nine: Elizabeth, The talented Mr. Ripley, the LOTR trilogy, The Aviator, Hot Fuzz, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (naturally), and Oceans 8. Out of those I have to go with The Aviator.
4. What would you like to get back? (May 14: “Get Back” by the Beatles is the number one song in America)
A sense of calm. (gestures wildly at everything).
5. Who’s your favorite Joni, and who’s your favorite Mitchell? Alternate spellings and forms of the name are allowed! (May 17: Joni Mitchell is on the cover of Rolling Stone #33)
I’m going to be very literal here and go with Joni Mitchell for favorite Joni. I went to prom with a friend named Mitchell, and there is also a Mitchell who feeds me a lot of good content ideas for my blog, so I’ll put those two as a tie. 😉
Have a wonderful weekend. After a few days of rain, I hope my hammock has the chance to dry out soon!
I feel better that I’m not alone with the Monty Python thing. It’s just never really appealed to me!
My entire family can recite whole lengthy dialogues from Python shows and movies. Except my niece K who HATES them and us when we get started. (are you her? 😉 )
That fourth question is a killer for sure. When you find the calm, can you let the rest of us in on the secret??
Okay but have you seen The Argument Clinic? 🙂

I know. Roger Ebert used to say two things you can never convince someone of are whether something is funny and whether something is sexy.
