Friday 5: Z

Happy Friday! Today is National Exercise Day (I exercise for 30 minutes at least 6 days a week now), National Animal Crackers Day (I still eat them regularly), Good Friday (used to be a bigger deal for me when I was a churchgoer but now I spend some time musing about how the death penalty shouldn’t exist), and a day off for me. I leave Monday morning for Las Vegas and I’m ready.

friday april 25

I spent my morning baking Easter bread and then I spent my early evening beginning the Herculean task of cleaning up the back yard for spring/summer. I planted two more peony plants and cleaned out the herb garden. It’ll be hammock season when I return!

Let’s get into the Friday 5! This week’s theme is simply Z. WM’s joining in.

  1. How much black do you have in your wardrobe?
Me: Not a whole lot. Three pair of pants, a long sleeved shirt and a tee. A bra. A tank top. Two pair of shoes. A simple dress. My default color is usually a soft gray. I love heather gray tees and hoodies and dove gray sweaters. I think gray makes them extra snuggly.

WM: ALL, except for summer when I switch to aloha shirts.
  2. When did your pen prove mightier than the sword?
Me: I’m very good at writing long details backed up by facts. I think February was the last time I had to do that.

WM: Every day when I open up the gradebook.
  3. How do you feel about Mexican food?
Me: You know how much I love Taco Bell, which is Mexican-adjacent. I love real Mexican food (as Mexican as one can get in the USA) and if I had my choice of restaurants all of the time I’d be exclusively at Mexican and Italian places.

    (OH IT’S ZORRO!)

WM: It’s delicious and do you have some?
  4. In what situation have you had recently to hold your horses?
Me: Yesterday someone (outside of my office, a third party) asked me if I had uploaded a file and I did so the literal DAY they asked it of me. If they had checked the file server themselves they would have seen it. But maybe they were having a bad day, or are stressed about everything going on. (Zorro’s horse in the TV series was named Tornado/Toronado)

WM: Not telling a coworker exactly how wrong they were.
  5. What are your favorite words beginning with Z?
    Me: Zamboni! Ziti! Zippity-doo-dah!

    WM: Zilch.

Back in the late 90s/early 00s, the Disney Channel used to air original Zorro TV show at midnight. One very hot summer in my first apartment, BvP (my first husband) and I dragged the mattress out from the bedroom into the living room so that we could sleep in front of the open sliding door. It took all of the room between the sofa and the TV. We watched Zorro every night. It’s a good memory. And Guy Williams was SMOKING HOT.

Guy Williams as Zorro. He's in his black suit and gloves, no hat or mask, holding his sword up and smiling. This man smouldered.
(smouldering)

Great googly moogly. The funniest part of the series is that Zorro’s father, Don Alejandro, thought his son was a wimpy and ineffective intellectual and that Zorro was a bad ass hero. Zorro was followed by the old Mickey Mouse Club program.

Tomorrow I’ll bake ham pies with Mom and continue to work in the yard, Sunday is Easter and the first Devils NHL playoff game. I predict they’ll be eliminated quickly in the first round. They’re good but not great this year and I’m shocked that they made it to the playoffs.

Enjoy your weekend and Happy Easter to those who observe!

Oh, your guess was way better than mine! I thought of Men in Black (because of questions 1, 2, and 5 — I admit I wasn’t sure how the Mexican food or horses fit). “Zorro” it must be.

Hello!

About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)

Well, that happened.
