Rabbit rabbit!
Happy Friday, which is also National Cinnamon Day (I like) and National Calzone Day (I also like). It’s also the day after Halloween. We had fewer kids visit this year; about 57 total. In prior years we used to worry about running out of candy.
And I think the upswing in “safer” alternatives like Trunk or Treat is the cause. Trunk or Treat events occur during the 2 weekends before Halloween, and why would a kid want to walk around their neighborhood and learn social skills like knocking and saying thank you if they can pivot between ten car trunks owned by people their parents (or church, usually a church) have already deemed “safe?” People want close-knit neighborhoods, but how do you build that when you won’t walk your kids around on the most neighborly day of the year?
The Friday 5 theme is Look who decided to show up and I feel a little seen as I’m actually writing this on a Saturday. I didn’t have a chance to finish this yesterday because I went out to eat with my brother after work. But I’m lying and dating this for yesterday, mostly because I had the National “Blah” day and Halloween paragraph pre-written.
- What is usually the cause of your being late for something?
Other people. - How has your punctuality changed with the seasons of your life?
I am more punctual now than I ever have been. - What is something you are pretty much never late for?
A meal. - What are you behind on right now?
Shopping for Christmas gifts. I usually have about 1/3 of them finished by now but not this year. My goal is to have it all wrapped up (haha!) by the last day of November. - Who among your friends and family can most be relied upon to be on time? Who can most be relied upon to be tardy?
Now you know I don’t ever call people out like this on my blog. So a second thing I am pretty much never late for is a flight. I like to get there at least 2 hours before takeoff.
And that’s it! This weekend we pull down the Halloween decor. WM is itching to begin the Christmas Village construction. Mom gave him her Dickens Village from years ago so now we’ll have a village in the dining room as well.
We change the clocks this weekend and I’m prepared to mute everyone on social who complains about it.
