Happy Friday! It’s National Coloring Book Day (coloring was my least-favorite activity as a child) and National Ice Cream Sandwich Day. I have mini ice cream sandwiches in my freezer right now! It was not my Summer Friday off from work, but when half of the company is off Fridays are a very easy day.
Things I need to do today: Call the township because they skipped collecting our recyclables for the second week in a row. I gave them grace the first week but the bin is full now.
Things I need to do this weekend: Return a library book, pull down the dead cucumber vines, make & freeze pesto from garden basil, try to make a mint syrup, weed the garden beds, make a Goodwill dropoff, clean the ice machine, and get my first Shingles vaccine on Sunday. I hear the shot makes you feel lousy but I’m always intrigued by controlled illnesses like flu/covid vaccine side effects and even last year’s colonoscopy prep. I joined my brother’s Fantasy Football league so I have to do some research.
Let’s hit up the Friday 5! This week’s theme is Excess negativity, and it’s a complaint list! Let’s do this!
- What’s your biggest complaint about in-store shopping?
My biggest complaint are stores that force their staff to check on me every few minutes to make sure I’m okay. I’ve been doing this a long time. I’ve got this. If I have a question I’ll ask. No, you don’t have to hold my items at the counter; I’m going to put half of it back anyway. If we have room for a second biggest complaint (and we do, because this is my own space), it’s when stores don’t staff well enough to keep their displays neat. My Walmart is tidier than my Target is. As a former retail employee I am a little stressed out by clothes hanging off of tables and hangers. - What’s your biggest complaint about seeing movies in a theater?
People who bring young children/babies into very loud/violent/scary/stimulating movies. I’m sure there were some 2 year olds weeping through Twisters last weekend. Sitters are expensive but so are child psychiatrists. - What’s your biggest complaint about personal hygiene?
The time and effort. I find showers loud and violent and a chore. My hair takes forever to dry. - What’s your biggest complaint about preparing a meal?
I am fortunate in that WM does the lion’s share of our cooking. I do not like when recipes misrepresent how much time it takes to prepare a dish. Now part of that is on me for not reading ahead, but if there’s a “marinate for 2 hours” tucked into a recipe, I’m immediately pissed off. - What’s your biggest complaint about your neighborhood?
I have none. Everybody is nice. It’s delightfully diverse. I can walk to the train. The Township is always responsive to issues like fallen trees and take care of the streets. I’m writing this piecemeal through the day and I already called public works about recycling. They were nice and apologetic. I love it here. Wait, here’s my complaint: the people who make their entire personality about shitting on the suburbs.
The daily journal prompt wants me to identify how I could celebrate Simplify Your Life week. Every season I go through my closet and get rid of the clothing I haven’t worn this season, which makes for an easier to navigate closet.
Three years ago today we lost Ollie. I think about him every day. He was our Best Boy. Every animal I have shared my life with (Max, Charlie, Misty, Noelle, Mickey, Lucky, Puggy and of course Murphy) has been amazing in their own ways, but Ollie was one in a million.
Have a wonderful weekend! 🙂
