Friday 5: No intersection

Happy Friday! Today is National Bikini Day and National Graham Cracker Day, but none of that matters today because July 5 is WM’s and my 12th wedding anniversary!

I see a lot of content from wedding photographers and they are removing things left and right from photos because they don’t go with the ‘aesthetic’ but doesn’t this red sign add tons of charm to this photo?

And some people want to be married in public places but don’t want people (who are literally just existing in a public place) in their photos so they ask for them to be removed. Others make outrageous requests, like removing bridesmaids from wedding party pictures and holy crap! Since photos are considered to be primary sources, how much background corrections can be ethically done before it crosses the line. Can a bride ask for a partly cloudy day to be altered into a sunny one? And after the family sees that photo over 10+ years, do they start to remember the day as sunny? It’s wild.

I sometimes use Photoshop to remove coffee drop stains from kitchen tile or dust from the baseboards before publishing photos on social. Where does that fall? It’s a fascinating topic, especially as editing programs become smarter and smarter.

I was off from work all week, but it was filled with appointments (nothing serious) so it didn’t exactly feel stress-free. I have to go to PT to get my shoulder back in shape. It’s been achy and off for about 7 weeks and I there’s a certain way that I am able to move my left arm that I’m unable to move my right arm. Monday’s doctor appointment revealed rotator cuff impingement that’s not a tear, but needs work. BLAAAAAAAAH. I just finished PT for the foot and now I’m back. This wasn’t caused by the gym at all, but I suspect it’s coming from how I sit at my desk to work. Anyway, BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

If I sustain one more non-injury joint injury I’m asking to go on HRT, because none of this shit happened until my estrogen started ramping down.

BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

Let’s hit the Friday 5 – this week’s theme is No Intersection. Since it’s our anniversary, WM’s answering as well. Let’s go!

friday, july 5
  1. When did you last read a physical issue of a magazine?
A few days ago. I still subscribe to Real Simple and Better Homes & Gardens. I miss print magazines so much, even the ones where I had to tear out 10 subscription cards and perfume samples before I could read them. Many of them publish digitally now, but I don’t always want to be on a screen when I read. WM subscribes to National Geographic & NatGeo History.
  2. If someone were going through your wardrobe, which item or items would give the person a good idea of your age?
I own a “vintage 1972” tee shirt which is the biggest giveaway. I also have ratty MTV, Wham!, and Hawaiian Punch tees that are very GenX coded. WM has a BEVY of Indiana Jones gear – a 43 year old movie.
  3. What is your favorite song released in 2024?
Eminem’s Houdini, with Sabrina Carpenter’s Espresso in a close second. I’m a pop music person, so I’m always trying to keep up with the new stuff. WM is a fan of Tipsy from Shaboozey.
  4. What non-food item did you last put in a zippered plastic bag?
Erm, probably travel sized toiletries for my trip to TNP’s San Diego Conference in April. WM uses plastic bags to sort/store extra Lego.
  5. You may know that in Japan there are cafes where you can play with bunnies, cats, hedgehogs, reptiles, owls, and many other kinds of animals. Assuming one hundred percent good faith, which would mean the animals’ safety and mental health are completely assured and the animals are rescues, making it unsafe for them to be released back into the wild, which animal cafe (whether it exists now or not) would you most like to spend time in?
Assuming also that the animals wouldn’t try to kill me, I’d love to spend time with black bears, because I’ve seen too many cute videos of them playing on trampolines and swings.

    WM: Cougars!!
Me: (sighs oldly) Yep. Happy Anniversary.

And that’s it for today! In case you’re curious about website finances, I “made” 33 cents from Amazon via the work from home guide so far – thanks to whoever clicked. I think I’ll do a travel one next and try to get up to a dollar!

Enjoy your weekend!

Hello!

About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)

Well, that happened.
