At first I read this as Norms and was going to figure out my favorite 5 Norms.*
Happy Friday, which is also National Skip the Straw Day (I try, but restaurants drop one on the table and takeout places put them in the bag anyway), National Banana Bread Day (norm! nom!) and National Dog Biscuit Day.
Which, after 5 days of vomiting, Murphy is on the mend and almost ready for dog biscuits again. All it took was IV fluids, injected Pepcid and an injected anti-nausea med, Prilosec, and probiotics for his food for the next 10 days. And the $550 to pay for all of that. If I could time travel, I’d have bought pet insurance for this one.
People ask, “hey Kim, you’ve had two dogs since 2007, when are you finding a second dog to add to your little pack?” The answer is when this little poop can go 6 months without a multi-hundred-dollar medical problem.
Let’s hop on over to the Friday 5. The theme is noms. Let’s go!
- What’s the strangest food you’ve eaten out of a can?
I am a beet lover, and I was a whole adult before I realized that puts me into the minority. “They taste like dirt!” say the people who have obviously eaten dirt in their lives. I’ve never eaten dirt. But I do eat canned beets. - What food most recently made you ill?
I’m very fortunate because I cannot remember. - What movie makes you really want to eat?
Ratatouille. Remy’s love for food is infectious. That soundtrack is a comfort listen for me. - What haven’t you eaten in a really, really long time?
There used to be a La Scala restaurant/pizza place across the street from TNP. They made an amazing chopped salad. Another restaurant bought that spot during the pandemic and, alas, no more easily accessible chopped salad. There is another La Scala location about 25 minutes away, but that’s too far for me to travel for a salad, even an amazing one.
This Italian Chopped Salad recipe from Love & Lemons is the closest I can get to it if I exclude the chickpeas. - What did you most recently eat in a moving vehicle?
It’s been a little while, but when WM and I head out to local festivals, we stop at Wawa first for a Sizzli (breakfast sandwich) and coffee (hazelnut) to have on the way.
And that’s it – after a very busy 2 weeks (dinners, gym, PT, in-office day, doctor appointments, vet appointment, etc) I am FINALLY staring at a few days of nothing out of the ordinary to do. It’s going to be GLORIOUS.

There’s also Norman Rockwell and Norman Bridwell (who made Clifford the Big Red Dog, and whose wife was named Norma!). But not Norman Bates. 🙂
