Summer of Forced Fun

Happy Monday! I’m off from work this week with very little planned beyond getting new tires and having my hair done. I’m playing it by ear, although I’d love to take the train into the city one morning to check out a stationery store. It’s also WM’s last week of teaching, which means his summer begins in earnest Friday afternoon.

a very 2010s letterboard with "Camp Pop 2026 Summer of Forced Fun" on it.
For years we’ve called summer “Camp Pop” because for the dogs, it’s summertime with Pop!

I recently scaled back the number of Substacks I pay for, but one of the paid subscriptions I kept is Drinks With Broads, the newsletter from the women behind Go Fug Yourself. In the June 4 newsletter, Jessica mentioned having a Forced Fun Summer.

Meaning, we’re going to have some FUN this year, dammit!

Last year, WM was recovering from his ACL surgery, and for me it was Hot Caretaker Summer. This year? Bring on the fun.Which, for us, means leaving the house a little more often than usual.

Yesterday we saw Raiders of the Lost Ark in the theater. Even though it’s on at least once a week here, I’ve never seen it on the big screen before. It was a lot of fun. What struck me this time was that even though Belloq worked with the Nazis, he seemed to retain a small measure of academic honor. Not much, mind you, but more than I remembered.

We’ve also discovered a new-to-us bagel place and started working it into our Sunday morning routine. They make homemade lemonade drinks, and I think trying one of those is on to-do list this week.

And now that we’ve put it on our 2010s-era letterboard, the Summer of Forced Fun is officially underway!

Hello!

About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)

Well, that happened.
