Friday 5: Deeper familiarity

Happy Friday! Today is National Vanilla Pudding Day (ye gods it’s been a long time since I’ve had that) and National Maritime Day (yay boats!).

And it’s my FIRST! SUMMER! FRIDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY of 2026! Cue the 90s hype music (see below).

friday may 22

The weather this four day weekend (*airhorn noise*) is cloudy, rainy, rainy, and damp. The temperature won’t get above 65°F. As I recall, it was miserable last year as well.

Today we ran errands: library, dry cleaning, etc. And I spent the rest of the afternoon burning my digital music collection onto CDs. In true 90s fashion, one of my 50 blank CDs was corrupted and couldn’t be burned. I’m not even halfway through the music, but it’s nice to have physical media again. If I could go back in time and make one minor change, I would stop myself from ripping all of my CDs onto the computer and tossing the originals.

Here is the Friday 5! This week’s theme is Deeper Familiarity and these questions are chewy! I love it. Let’s dig in.

1. What were the circumstances when you memorably lied to your parents about where you were?
I never did that. I learned early that the best way to do what I wanted as a teen was to be a good kid and recognize that, in most cases, the house rules weren’t unreasonable. The more trustworthy I was, the more privileges and leeway I had.

2. If someone offs you at work (or at a family reunion, if you prefer), who are the first two or three people the police should question as suspects?
Is this how people are living out there? There is nobody in my work or family who I think would off me. I do have a neighbor who has been going through some mental issues for years, but he’s not going to kill me.

3. What was the best thing you ate, the last time you went on a trip?
This is going to sound wild, but the barbecue ribs at Goofy’s Grill on the Disney Treasure in November were AMAZING. We were eating them almost every day. We were skipping the fancy dinners (which were admittedly ‘mid’) to eat ribs at Goofy’s Grill.

I have been working on a post about the November cruise and I’m completely mired in the day-to-day details. I used to be able to bang out trip reports like nothing, and now they just seem like “and then we did this and then we did that and then we ate this and then we did that.” All the while I’m taking what was actually an amazing trip and boring myself to death. I might just toss up highs and lows, find out how to create a photo gallery of the daily photo collages I made and call it good.

4. When did you memorably do something really foolish after which there were no negative consequences?
Nineteen years ago, on the Friday of Memorial Day Weekend, WM traveled from Michigan to my Dee-luxe Apartment in the Sky to give this thing a go. He had no job, and both of us were divorced from our previous spouses for less than a year. On paper this never ever should have worked.

And yet, not only were there no negative consequences, but there have been more good mornings, fun afternoons, and cozy evenings than I can count. I’m glad I was foolish.

5. Of Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, which three do you need a large dose of, which three just a medium shot of, and which three a small booster of?
Large dose: Patience, peace, self-control
Medium shot: Kindness, faithfulness, goodness
Small booster: Gentleness, love, joy

And that is all! Maybe I’ll finally wrangle that cruise post together. Maybe I’ll run away from it and make another mug post. Maybe both? Enjoy your weekend — and get ready for this!

Previous Post Wordless Wednesday 2026: Week 21

Hello!

About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)

Well, that happened.
