My Steam Deck, wrapped

I’m really enjoying it the Steam Deck that I bought back in December! I’ve always loved gaming, but I was strictly a PC gamer. After sitting at my desk all day for work, the last thing I wanted to do was stay there longer to play. The Steam Deck lets me bring my PC games into the living room, which feels like a small but meaningful upgrade to my quality of life.

As an aside: that’s kind of a bummer. I used to love my little corner of the office. Now it’s just “where I work.”

I thought I’d be intimidated by the controls, but none of the games I play actually utilize all of them, so it’s been surprisingly easy to adapt.

And what am I playing? Thank you for asking!
Disney Dreamlight Valley!
Slay the Spire!
Lumines (a love from 20 years ago)!
PowerWash Simulator!
And soon I’ll be playing Stardew Valley’s newest update!

The Steam Deck is sleek and shiny (and now difficult to find) but the basic black design wasn’t “me.” I decided to buy a vinyl skin. Et voila!

a steam deck skinned with a vincent van gogh pattered decal. the start screen is a Pong throwback

This is Van Gogh’s Blossoming Almond Tree from DecalGal and it is gorgeous. It was pretty easy to apply and nerve-wracking at the same time. There are a few tiny wrinkles along the sides where I couldn’t quite get the vinyl to lay perfectly around the curves, but thanks to the pattern you can’t see them and I can barely feel them.

And honestly that makes me happy. There’s no rule that says tech needs to stay pristine and personality-free. If I’m going to use something every day, it might as well look like mine. The artwork makes me smile and that tiny spark of joy is worth far more than keeping it factory-perfect.

PS: I texted 0/4 people. Yay me!

Hello!

About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)

Well, that happened.
