Friday 5: Implementation

friday february 13

Happy Friday! Today is National Cheddar Day (sharp, please), National Tortellini Day (yum!), and Mom’s birthday! I took today off from work because I’m trying to not be in the position where I have to burn a bunch of vacation in September or lose the PTO. One Friday off per month should help. Stacking that Friday in the front of an already existing three-day weekend is quite decadent.

I’m going to cruise right into the Friday 5 and maybe catch a little nap. This week’s theme is Implementation. Let’s gooooooooo!

  1. How confidently do you open a bottle of wine or champagne?
Wine is easy. I use a manual corkscrew and have never had a problem. But I don’t think I’ve ever opened a bottle of champagne. I’d love to try slicing one open with a saber — I’m always impressed when I see that on TV.
  2. When did you last cut something with scissors?
Wednesday was our in-office day and believe it or not we’re again prepping for our Big!Annual!Conference. I used scissors to cut packing tape. Not very glamorous.
  3. Which of your household tools is fancier than necessary?
Our lawnmower has a pouch to hold a mobile phone.
  4. When did you last wield a hammer?
On Wednesday our COO gave our department a package from a potential vendor which was delivered to his office We opened it to find a translucent plastic box with briefcase-style combination locks on it. There was a basket full of goodies inside, and the enclosed card asked us to scan the QR code for the combination to unlock the box. My coworker scanned the code on her phone and we were taken to a video by the vendor. We watched the entire video and at the end, we were instructed to set up a sales call for the combination.

After I wielded the hammer, I received a book and the basket, my one coworker took home the earbuds, and the other one scored a Bluetooth speaker.
  5. What is your can opener like?
It’s the style of can opener that removes the top of the can and leaves a smooth edge. I think it’s made by OXO.

And that’s it! Have a fantastic weekend and I’ll be back Monday with something or other.

Previous Post Wordless Wednesday 2026: Week 6

Hello!

About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)

Well, that happened.
