October 2025 cards: Happy Halloween!

Happy November! Here’s a look at the cards I made for October’s Card Club. Of course, I had to go with a Halloween theme.

Inspired by my painted pumpkins, I wanted to go retro with these and stick to a basic orange and black color scheme. My initial idea was to paint candy corn for the cards; however, I’m not quite skilled enough yet to create consistently sized paintings of recognizable shapes.

So I figured I’d create a night scene instead. Some orange ink dabbed along the edges of a quarter-circle of yellow cardstock added a bit of moonglow. I knew I wanted to have an orange strip of cardstock a third of the way down with HAPPY HALLOWEEN stamped on it.

But I was still thinking about the candy corn idea and while playing around with the yellow cardstock, I realized I could create candy corn the same way I created watermelons — by stacking concentric circles of different colored cardstock and cutting them. After rounding the corners, I had candy corn!

Nobody likes candy corn, but candy corn with a smile is irresistible. So I drew little smiley faces on my candy corn.

That was the moment my imagination caught fire. What’s cuter than smiling candy corn? A smaller smiling candy corn, of course. But hear me out: What if the larger candy corn is taking the smaller candy corn trick or treating? And the smaller candy corn is dressed as a ghost! And is carrying a tiny pumpkin!

Making the smaller candy corn characters was easy, because I cut out rounded triangles from white cardstock scraps (something I adore about cardmaking is that I can keep using scraps from previous projects) and added smiley faces.

I used a pumpkin stamp and die, plus a quick stroke of an alcohol marker, to create little pumpkins for the ghost to carry.

Then it just was a matter of gluing everything down. Placing the ghost slightly in front of the larger candy corn really made it look like you had opened the door and seen them on your front porch.

What I would have changed: I think a few stars in the sky would have been a nice finishing touch.

I had so much fun bringing these sweet little candy corn characters to life, and it reminds me why I love cardmaking so much: even the smallest scraps and ideas can turn into something utterly delightful!
