Friday 5: Agitation

Happy Friday! Today is National Hole in My Bucket Day and National Water a Flower Day which honestly seems very difficult to do if there’s a hole in your water bucket, dear Liza dear Liza.

In the absence of two of my weekly podcasts — Everything is Fine is on a sudden summer hiatus and A Thing or Two is over1 — I started listening to Good Hang with Amy Poehler today and I am smitten. I was a little reluctant because, oh hey another celebrity podcast, but I’d probably follow Amy Poehler into the fires of hell. I wish I were friends with her and Tina Fey and Maya Rudolph and Rachel Dratch.

Otherwise, what a freaking week. Murphy had a very upset stomach with diarrhea to the point where we had to take him to the vet to help get him over the hump. Luckily all of his tests came back okay and $440 and a $50 bag of Hill’s gastro distress dog food later, he turned the corner. And too many humans in my world are having medical issues right now and I don’t think I’ll be able to unclench until mid-July. We had a mental wellness training at work yesterday. The focus was anxiety and while I appreciate the gesture of getting us to try and work through anxiety, I was fighting with every ounce I had to keep from breaking into tears.

My county is under a tornado watch tonight. It’s always a trip to realize my house was not built with ‘sheltering from a tornado’ in mind. I have no basement. Every room has windows except my little laundry room which has our gas furnace and gas hot water heater in it. I do not pay New Jersey taxes to deal with Midwestern weather. I’d rather have my Nor’easters and hurricanes, thank you very much.

But Sunday is going to be a great day because it’s going to be JUNE! MY FAVORITE MONTH! Eat a popsicle, apply sunscreen, have a pina colada, chase the ice cream truck, and bury yourself in a tub full of fresh peaches! June is coming to save me from malaise as long as my house isn’t flattened tonight.

This week’s Friday 5 is about agitation. I know about this! I’m really freaking agitated! Let’s gooooo..

  1. Whose performance of your nation’s anthem did you find especially stirring?
Whitney Houston in 1991. There have been very good performances since, but none like that.
  2. When did you last fold something?
I folded towels 5 minutes ago.
  3. When did you last toss something to someone?
I tossed a (clean) steam mop pad at WM after he tossed it at me first.
  4. How do you feel about beets?
I love beets. I’m the only person I know who does, and they are growing in my garden as I type this.
  5. What do you have mixed feelings about?
I’m all for reducing government spending. I used to be a Republican after all. But not like this. Let’s cleanse our palete with Whitney Houston’s Star Spangled Banner performance.

Weekend plans include putting out my solar tiki torches, planting some more beets, and buying new bras because mine are one cup in the grave. And JUNE!

  1. Literally four months after I picked it up to replace House Calls with Vivek Murthy. Rude. ↩︎

Hello!

About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)

Well, that happened.
