Happy Friday! It’s also National Memory Day and National French Bread Day (yum!) AND the first Friday of Spring, thank goodness. Thanks to weather, I didn’t stumble home from Clearwater until 2am Monday morning and I feel like I’ve been chasing a sleep deficit ever since. Work is nutty because we’re a month away from the Annual Conference and everything is turned up to 11. This is the first weekend in over a month where I have zero plans and I’m torn between the list of chores I need to do (because I’ve been doing things the past umpteen weekends) and just crashing on the sofa and sleeping it away.

I’m feeling a little crummy overall. I should have started seeds by now but haven’t. I’m once again looking at my blog as a chore instead of a delight. I’ve been eating like crap for the past week. I think I need 2 days of sleep.
Oh, and it’s also National Memory Day.
What a bummer this post is, right? Let’s just head into the Friday 5. This week’s theme is Newfangled.
- Among the supposedly cool, convenient things your phone can do, which have you so far refused to try?
Apple Intelligence. I don’t need a program to summarize my personal emails or text messages. - Among the great things your phone can do, which did you unexpectedly really like?
I set up the phone to go into focus mode during the workday, which hides most of my apps and only lets certain notifications through. I also like the motion cues that you can turn on to help alleviate motion sickness when looking at the phone in the car. It helps! - Which of the other new electronic gadgets or services have you so far been resistant to trying or reluctant to try?
I will never put smart locks on my house. I do not want a WiFi enabled refrigerator, washer, dryer, or oven. I will probably not upgrade to the paid Alexa service that’s coming along. I’m actually thinking of decommissioning my bedroom Amazon spot in favor of a regular Bluetooth speaker with a clock and my kitchen Amazon show for nothing. Both of those devices have screens and it’s a constant battle to just let them be clocks and not constant ads. - How has some of the new technology changed the way you think about life, the universe, or everything?
It’s so cool to be able to have all of the information I want (and a lot that I don’t) in the palm of my hand. But that same coolness sometimes leads me to look askance at people who choose not to utilize it and instead live ignorantly about things and issues. - What percentage of the time is your phone within ten feet of you?
Ninety percent, which I kind of hate. It sits on my desk during the day. It sits on my nightstand while I sleep. It sends music to a waterproof bluetooth speaker when I’m in the shower. The only time I don’t carry it with me is when I’m doing housework.
Did I mention it’s National Memory Day?
