Friday 5 (on Saturday): Into the Groove

Happy Saturday! I could have cheesed it and pre-dated this post to appear as if I wrote it yesterday but nah. I’m holidaying it up this long weekend and I am tardy.

Here’s the Friday 5, titled Into the Groove.

1. When did you last serve something (or have something served to you) on a platter?
Thanksgiving turkey! The Lovely Kristen’s turkey is always so amazing. Gaze your eyes upon this gorgeous platter.

a red oval Fiestaware platter of carved turkey with two drumsticks sticking straight up. There is a yellow not-quite-lab dog at the upper left of the photo staring hopefully at the camera
My niece-dog, Sunny, also thinks it’s a gorgeous platter.

2. When did you last touch something made of wax?
I bought a pine-scented candle yesterday. WM doesn’t like scented candles but I also don’t like my office to smell like dog butt, so I burn them in the morning while I work so that by the time he comes home the scent mostly dissipates. I can’t wait to burn this one on Monday.

3. When did you last record your voice?
Ehhh…do Instagram stories count? Sometimes I’ll record stories of my crafting and gardening endeavors, and you hear me but don’t see me.

4. When did you last stick an adhesive vinyl sticker to something?
A few months ago. I have a S’well water bottle with a There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow sticker on it.

5. Do you still have something in your house that plays digital video discs (DVDs) or compact discs (CDs)?
Of course! My PC tower has a CD player, and I think the Playstation can play DVDs.

I was stupid years ago and ripped all of my CDs into MP3s and got rid of the physical media. A hard drive crash later, I’m missing a bunch of music I once bought. I’ve stared checking those CDs out from the library and rip them back to my computer, or purchasing them used at yard sales.

I’ve had so many hot flashes this week that at one point I considered shaving my head. But I’m honestly happy I’m not freezing all of the time anymore.

A quick diet update: As of Wednesday morning I was 11.9 pounds down which is amazing! I set a goal in September to be 10 lbs down by the first week of December, fully aware that weight loss for me is going to be slower now than it was 20 years ago. Thursday was Thanksgiving, yesterday I had breakfast out, today I have lunch out, and tomorrow I have dinner out so who knows what I’ll be on Monday but I hit my goal and I’m happy. My next goal is to be an additional 15 lbs down by mid-March. I’m not on any injections. I’m doing an old-school diet, which is now called a “caloric deficit.” My goal is to eat less than 1350 for each day and I can add more to that by exercising. Exercise for me is either the Supernatural program on our Oculus, walking, or the gym.

I said a while back that I was only going to diet again if I felt like I wasn’t strong enough to carry myself through my life. And after a while of going to the gym (and various non-gym injuries) my strength and energy levels weren’t cutting it. Do I feel better? Yes. I am less sore, which is the only reason I’m doing this. Am I grumpy that eating less and moving more works? Also yes. I also hate that taking walks every day improves my mental health. Stupid science.

Have a delightful weekend, friends! As always, I’m thankful for all of you who stop by to read. 🙂

Hello!

About Me

I've been blogging for over twenty (2 decades! 2-0!) years and I'm apparently one of the few over-50 female bloggers who haven't sold out to THE MAN yet; hence this blog remains quirky, homespun, and unprofitable. No big. However, if you're from Disney, Doritos, or Dave Matthews Band, I'm open to talk about selling out.

I live in Southern New Jersey with my husband WM, and our dog Murphy. I'm an adult who likes Disney but not a Disney Adult. I used to work a fun (really!) office job in Philadelphia, but since March of 2020 I'm a work from home hermit. So if you're looking for a childless, slightly round, marginally boring GenX woman's blog to follow, you've come to the right place! :)

Well, that happened.
