Happy Friday, which is also National Beach Day (I hardly was there this summer, booo) and National Grief Awareness Day and really, is there anybody who isn’t aware of grief?
This has been a nutty week, with us returning from Seattle, a steroid shot in my shoulder, and a few not-great days of work, plus the impending doom and gloom of shitty September, so I’m skipping the formalities and am heading straight for the Friday 5. This week’s theme is GOAT. WM is peering over my shoulder to help out.
- If you are forced to choose only one, what is the greatest single episode of a television series, ever?
Me: I can only go with shows I know, because everyone will say the WKRP turkey off the roof episode or the Mary Tyler Moore clown funeral episode, but those are too far in the past for me. I say it’s the Moonlighting’s “Atomic Shakespeare” episode, which was funny, groundbreaking, memorable, and a good homage to the source material
WM: The Two Cathedrals episode of The West Wing. - If you are forced to choose only one, what is the greatest opening line of a song, ever?
Me: TOMMY USED TO WORK ON THE DOOOOCCCCCK… from Bon Jovi’s Livin’ on a Prayer. it sets the scene, it’s over the top, you know you’re in for a screaming good song. (technically it’s “once upon a time, not so long ago” but that’s really the intro.)
WM: Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life – Let’s Go Crazy by Prince. - If you are forced to choose only one, what is the greatest movie kiss of all time?
Me: Again, only movies I’ve seen. It has to be Joe and Kathleen’s kiss at the end of You’ve Got Mail. You wait the entire movie for these two soppy people to get together and it’s perfect, Brinkley and all.
WM: The Spider-man rain kiss. - If you are forced to choose only one, what is the greatest building of all time?
Me: Epcot’s Spaceship Earth.
WM: The Flatiron Building. - If you are forced to choose only one, what is the greatest candy — not a candy bar — of all time?
Me: Chocolate fudge with walnuts!
WM: The lowly Hershey’s Kiss.
