Time for some lunchtime blogging! I worked for about 5 hours last Sunday, so this workweek officially is 6 days long yet feels 10 days long. This lunch break is an hour long but feels 5 minutes long. Rude.
Here’s the Friday 5. This week’s theme is Re: which reminds me of the emails that come in with a subject line similar to RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Question. Shouldn’t email software be better about that by now?
- What’s due for REnewal?
Murphy’s dog license, 4 months ago. My township has a rule that they won’t renew a dog’s license unless their rabies shot is good past November of the current year. Murphy has his appointment next month, and I’m not really fond of moving his shot up 5 months just to fall in line with the township rule. So I’ll renew his license and pay the $22 late fee next month. Next year we’ll have the same story with Ollie, who’s shot is due in August. Rabies shots are good for 3 years, so only 1 year out of every 3 do we not have to pay a late fee. - When did you most recently REplace something good with something inferior?
I am trying really hard not to do this anymore. But we had a garden hose that was very highly rated by Wirecutter. And it was a good garden hose. The problem was that it was solid, black rubber and therefore very heavy and very hot if it was left in the sun. Which, hoses are. After 2 years of lugging it around to water plants and grass, we ended up buying a cheaper aluminum one that doesn’t kink and doesn’t hold heat and we love it. We still have the old hose in the garage. - What statement did you recently have to REcant?
“Maybe now that Biden’s in office and the Senate is at 51/50 I can relax a bit.” NOPE. No relaxing. I’m back on the resistance train. Choo choo! - What’s REfreshed you this week?
I had about 20 minutes of sitting the sunshine in the backyard a few days ago and it was a delight. The weather is supposed to pop into the 80s next week and I’m here for it. - What’s a fond memory you have of elementary school REcess?
Singing the Grease movie songs with all of the girls in my class every day for at least a month in possibly 3rd grade. Grease is the first movie I remember being on cable all of the time. Somebody had a lyric book and we’d be piled all over the playground equipment singing Greased Lightning. Good times.
Tomorrow I transplant my seedlings into larger pots and put them outside in the greenhouse to begin hardening. I’m also going to plant zinnias in the front bed, and more lettuce, cauliflower (not doing well with that) and beets into the back raised bed. Might head to a store to buy dirt and sand for potatoes and carrot buckets. We’ll get everything ready for a good soaking rain on Sunday.
Such normal plans! This year I am cherishing every ounce of normalcy that is coming back into our lives. If you are on the fence about getting the vaccine, I urge you to do so. The side effects range from a day of sick to nothing at all, but the relief that comes from having an immune system ready, willing, and able to mitigate the virus is immeasurable. I am thrilled by each and every vaccine selfie I see.
Back to work!

I am thrilled by the vaccine selfies and also by the photos of vaccinated people hanging together.

“Don’t give a s*** ’cause you get a lot of t*t — Greased Lightning!” How did they get away with playing that on AM radio? And they totally did, because that’s how I first heard the lyrics. I didn’t see the movie until it was on cable, but I knew all the words to Greased Lightning. I was nine.
