Late afternoon blog
The power was out at South Jersey’s Best newspaper when I arrived this morning. The backup generator was up, but only powered up the more important sections. Like the newsroom. So after an hour of scrounging around the newsroom trying to find a computer that had the programs I needed, I bagged it in and came home. Oh don’t get excited — I worked from home! Nice benefit. Boss called twice just to make sure I wasn’t snoozing or playing Asheron’s Call. I heard the power came back at 1:55 am. Being that my quitting time was 2 pm, I think this blackout was tailor-made for me!

And now, the Friday Five…celebrating it’s Second Anniversary!
1. Who is your favorite singer/musician? Why?
Love the Dave Matthews Band. There is a song for every mood I have.
2. What one singer/musician can you not stand? Why?
Barbra Striesand. Annoying, shrill, overbearing voice. Annoying, shrill, overbearing woman who THINKS she knows about everything and doesn’t understand that her job is to entertain, not to moralize. Have you seen what she charges for her concerts? What a snobby b!tch!!!
3. If your favorite singer wasn’t in the music business, do you think you would still like him/her as a person?
I don’t know Dave Matthews as a person. I suspect he’s a bit too hippy/granola for my tastes.
4. Have you been to any concerts? If yes, who put on the best show?
I think the idea of “Best Show” varies on the age you were when you see the concert. At 31, I think the Dave Matthews Band puts on a great show because they play their own music, live, and change their setlists nightly. BUT, when I was 19, I went to the New Kids on the Block concert, and thought it was fabulous because of the fireworks, choreography, and predictablilty.
5. What are your thoughts on downloading free music online vs. purchasing albums? Do you feel the RIAA is right in its pursuit to stop people from dowloading free music?
THIS is a fluffy Friday Five question?
Let’s put it this way. I like Barry Manilow’s Copacabana. I’m not about to spent $15.00 or more for Barry’s Greatest Hits CD. I think it’s not the Internet that is killing the record industry, it’s their failure to release singles at affordable prices. Cassette singles were fantastic. CD singles were more expensive, so I didn’t buy them. RIAA – LET ME BUY SONGS INDIVIDUALLY! I love the Apple iTunes system. I’d gladly pay 99 cents for Copacabana. I’m not going to buy Britney Spears’ CD for the one song that i like. I will buy ANY CD from bands/artists that I like. I even preorder CDs.
That said, I hate the RIAA for what they’re doing — criminalizing common people. Am I at fault when I lend someone a book or a magazine? According to the RIAA I am. Wanna stop this insane madness? Go here and sign the petition, or contribute. I’m going to.
Oooo that question pissed me off. Need dinner.
