Musings on our past and future wanderings.

October 19, 2003 – from WDW

Aloha! I’m blogging LIVE from DisneyQuest on their dumbed-down terminals. The keyboard is a bit weird…the \key is where the shift key is. So excuse the typos.

The weather is gorgeous…beautiful blue sky with puffy, white, non-intrusive clouds. Our flights were smooth. We slept during the flight to Atlanta. And, we got the room we requested…ground floor, Tahiti building facing the castle. So hyper me can run right from the room to the beach!

Yesterday we ate at the outdoor cantina at Mexico. (Epcot Mexico, that is) Then we meandered around world showcase until around 3 pm. Headed back to the room for a bit, and took a nap at 5 pm, since we were awake since 2:30. Slept until 8 am this morning. Eek! Missed ‘Ohana (means family) dinner, and the fireworks. Oh, well.

This morning we ate at Kona Cafe (Kim: scrambled eggs. David: pancakes) and headed out to Downtown Disney. Bought some stuff at the Christmas store. (Erin: more antenna toppers!) And now we’re here. We’ll probably have lunch at the Cheesecake factory upstairs.

But let’s answer the burning question on everyone’s minds: “Kim, are you sick?” Why yes, Virginia, I’m sick again! Small cough…iffy voice…cranky throat. Oh well. I’m at my laughing place…and I won’t let the sniffles ruin it for me. After all, I’ve been sick since August. I’m used to it. 🙂

We also bought tickets to the Wednesday night Cirque du Soleil: La Nouba show. (Damon: Yes, we finally broke down…hope its as good as you say. Over…)

I should be blogging regularly, since there is now a cheap internet kiosk in the Polynesian lobby. (John: that means that yes, I did update my fantasy team).

Aloha for now!

Almost on vacation!

In six minutes, David will officially be on vacation for TWO weeks. I still have 6 working hours left. This time tomorrow, we will be en route to Atlanta, where — hold on — phone call.

It’s David. “My vacation’s starting! Your vacation’s NOT.” He’s “smelling the new vacation air.” Oh, Lord.

I just hung up on him. Happy Vacation!

Where was I? Oh yes…Atlanta. After an hour layover, we’ll be on our way to Sunny Orlando, where we have a car service scheduled to pick us up and whisk us to the Disney’s Polynesian Resort! We’ll be dining at ‘Ohana (means family) tomorrow night.

But I still have today to get through. I’m wearing a Minnie Mouse shirt, my fave Disneyland hoodie, Mickey Mouse earrings, and I have my WDW official Mickey ears (with Kimberly embroidered on the back, natch) to wear for extra effect. Goal: To be so annoying I get sent home early.

Mood: Eager to get out of work. Naturally, the minutes are dragging.
Work docket: Hot Properties — ads are being finicky. Tweak recipe database for upload into new system. Waiting for Voter Guide info, which hopefully will arrive after I’ve left.
Lunch: Unknown
Afternoon: Rousing walk with Max. Start whirlwind of cleaning and packing.
Evening: Drop Max off at Mom’s around 8ish.
Tomorrow: Depart Casa LadyGypsy at 4:00 am.

I don’t know if I’ll be able to blog at all while I’m away. As I’ve mentioned before, Disney, for all of its splendor, is horrible with allowing Internet access. They’re making wireless access available soon, but for those of us w/o laptops, that doesn’t mean a hill of beans.

Let’s kick out the Friday Five, shall we?:

1. Name five things in your refrigerator.
Gatorade, Shredded cheese, flat Diet Vanilla Coke, tomatoes, eggs

2. Name five things in your freezer.
Boca Burgers, Mickey Mouse Ice Cube Trays, Cold packs for injuries, butter, and I THINK some pork chops. And lots of frost. We’re going to defrost it today.

3. Name five things under your kitchen sink.
Windex, Vanilla Scented Pledge, 409, Nature’s Miracle, trash bags

4. Name five things around your computer.
Mickey Mouse bobblehead, family pictures, unopened November issue of Lucky magazine, spiral notebook, empty Oreo cookie tray.

5. Name five things in your medicine cabinet.
Well, it’s actually a box. Flonase, naproxen, Allegra samples, bandaids, and Theracare heat pads.

cell block tangoI am again among the hearing! 🙂 I coughed a bit last night, but when I woke up, the fluid was gone from my ears. I can hear! Huzzah!

The Rock
Last Monday, we went to visit Alcatraz. Which is now Alcatraz Island State Park. Doesn’t sound so scary anymore. Took the Blue Line Ferry across the Bay for a 20 minute journey to the island. After being briefed by Ranger Joe (not real name) we climbed up to the cellhouse (equivalent of 13 flights of stairs) and received our headset for the self-guiding audio tour. This is a type of tour I first experienced when I visited Graceland in 1995. You are given a headseat and a digital player and you follow the directions on the recording. “Turn right down the first corridor and proceed to cell 102, where you will see Kim in a traditional tourist photograph.” On one hand, it’s a great way to take a tour because you can hear ACTUAL audio clips of ACTUAL hardened criminals talking about their stays in prison. On the other hand, groups of people wander wordlessly from room to room, isolated from each other. But seeing that isolation was a big part of the Alcatraz experience, maybe the tour was done that way on purpose!

Did you know that the wardens’ wives and children also lived on Alcatraz back when it was a prison?

My diet offcially restarts tomorrow. I’ll go back to yoga on Wednesday and restart the gym on Thursday (hopefully I’ll be feeling better by then). To shake things up a bit (and to avoid post-vacation depression) I’m not restarting daily weigh-ins until Monday the 15th.

And so goes another lazy Labor Day. The only ‘must-do’ for me is food shopping. Me cupboard is bare.
